‘BEN ARE YOU CRAZY… WE ARE GOING TO SELL THE DRUGS,’ JAMMEH TELLS BEN JAMMEH DURING A STATE HOUSE MEETING

When Gambia’s former antinarcotic chief Benedict Jammeh proposed for the destruction of the two billion dollars worth of cocaine to Yahya Jammeh, the President’s immediate response was: Are you crazy Ben? Jammeh told Ben Jammeh in the presence of the Solicitor General Pa Harry Jammeh at the State House that burning the impounded cocaine was a waste. The President allegedly said the cocaine should be sold, but Ben informed him that any attempt to dispose the cocaine in the market might not augur well on the image of the country. Ben warned against the sale of the cocaine. Jammeh complied. But Ben didn’t know that he has offended the Kanilai drug kingpin. While the high profile cocaine trial involving some South American nationals was in progress in court, Ben was instructed by his boss Yahya Jammeh to surrender the monetary exhibits that was found in possession of the accused persons. Ben then handed the sum of 461,000 Euros drug exhibits to dictator Yahya Jammeh. Jammeh pocketed the money.

New Global Study Pinpoints Main Causes of Childhood Diarrheal Diseases, Suggests Effective Solutions

Findings published in The Lancet can guide prevention, treatment and research on diarrheal diseases, which claim the lives of 800,000 children annually

BASSE, 14 May 2013 – A new international study published today in The Lancet provides the clearest picture yet of the impact and most common causes of diarrheal diseases, the second leading killer of young children globally, after pneumonia. The Global Enteric Multicenter Study (GEMS) is the largest study ever conducted on diarrheal diseases in developing countries, enrolling more than 20,000 children from seven sites across Asia and Africa. GEMS, coordinated by the University of Maryland School of Medicine’s Center for Vaccine Development, confirmed rotavirus – for which a vaccine already exists – as the leading cause of diarrheal disease among infants and identified other top causes for which additional research is urgently needed.

A Gambian activist detained by the authorities after peacefully expressing his views has been released – but there is still no news about a journalist missing for seven years, Amnesty International says. Imam Baba Leigh, a prominent Muslim cleric and activist, was freed after being held for more than five months at an unknown location after he publicly condemned the execution of nine inmates at Mile II prison in August 2012. He was arrested on 3 December 2012 by two National Intelligence Agency officers and told he was being taken to their headquarters for questioning. Imam Baba Leigh was effectively disappeared. He was never charged with a crime, was not brought before a court and during his time in detention and was not allowed contact with a lawyer or his family. Amnesty International adopted him as a Prisoner of Conscience.

The London 2013 Congress

On Saturday, May 11, 2013 in the borough of Kentish Town in London, Gambians in large numbers came together to grace the first ever Gambian Congress ever held in London in the United Kingdom. The aim of the Congress was to unify all organizations within the UK standing in opposition to the outrageous governance and human rights crisis in The Gambia for the last 19 years under the dictatorship of Yahya Jammeh. The first order of business was in agreeing to the purpose of this nascent organization whose establishment was first proposed earlier in the year at a meeting in London. At that first gathering, the attendees understood the need for this umbrella organization to begin its work and the passion for this purpose was rekindled last Saturday at The London Congress. Attendees were Gambian men who came from all over the UK and gave representation for their respective communities giving opinions for each of the stakeholders’ points of view.

First of all congratulations for all the efforts in pressurizing Jammeh to release Baba Leigh. The only language he understands is arrogance because that’s how he is. The struggle is winning. Pa, lot will be happening in the next few weeks. Ben Jammeh’s absconding is just the beginning of many more to come due to the continuing anger and dissatisfaction with Jammeh and his system by the security. Don’t be surprised if many senior service personnel soon leave because no one trust the system anymore and everyone sees fleeing the monster as the only way out. Even though some may not be able to go because of what they did, those who have the chance will all flee one at a time. Ben Jammeh is a credible witness in any case that may be brought against Jammeh in the drug trafficking business that the US or UN may indict him on including the General Boubu’s case.

BEN JAMMEH REPORTED MISSING—AMID REPORTS THAT HE ABSCONDED FROM THE JURISDICTION OF THE GAMBIA!

I was talking to a source close Lamin Jobarteh, Gambia’s Justice Minister, and he informed me unequivocally that Benedict Jammeh, the indicted former NDEA chief has been reported missing. In the Gambia, when you hear the word “missing” it means that either the person has been kidnapped, killed, or has absconded from the jurisdiction of the Gambia. My source told me that Ben was supposed to report to the police on Monday, but he failed to show up. One of the conditions attached to his bail was for Ben to report to the police twice a week: Mondays and Thursdays. The officer assigned to his case reported that Ben never show up on Monday, resulting to a joint security taskforce team to search his Busumbala home. Ben was nowhere to be seen when the security officers went for him. He is believed to have jumped bail. Speculations are that Ben might have traveled to the United Kingdom, while some sources are saying that he could be hiding somewhere in neighboring Casamance.

Kukoi Samba Sanyang was a ‘Senegalese’ national …After all!

Those of us who called for Gambians to come to their sense on this Kukoi Saga have been vindicated, by this new demining revelation that, after all, Kukoi Samba Samyang, himself, had consciously renounced, rejected, disowned and disavowed his Gambian citizenship, and swore allegiance to the Republic of Senegal! So, now what was all the hoopla all about? Those who understand and know the porous borders and fluid ethnic affiliations, have always maintained that Kukoi’s family was originally from the Casamance region of Senegal. It was very common to see people who live in Casamance, send their kids across the border in Gambia, to seek formal education in English, or seek employment , especially in the then police and Field Force! That is a topic for another day, so we will leave that alone for now!

Says Senegalese President Is A Dictator

The Macky Sall government has deported one of its citizens to neighboring Mali, without following the due process of the law, said Mr. Seydi Gassama, the Amnesty International local representative in Dakar, Senegal. Mr. Gassama, who appeared on Pap Ali Nyan’s show on DS2TV television, shocked the Senegalese population, when he declared that the deported Gambian fugitive Koukoie Samba Sanyang, was in fact a naturalized Senegalese citizen. Gassama said Mr. Sanyang was granted Senegalese citizenship by the then Wade government through naturalization. Gassama handed Koukoie’s Senegalese naturalization papers, Citizenship certificate, including Koukoie’s Senegalese ID to the DS2TV anchorman Mr. Nyan. He accuses the Macky Sall government of illegally deporting one of its citizens to Mali.
