Breaking News:Don't Allow to Be Used-Jammeh Tells Soldiers!

Don't Allow to Be Used-Jammeh Tells Soldiers

President Yaya Jammeh has said that there is no democracy in the army and
that anyone who allows himself to be used by any force to commit a mischief
would pay a price. Though, Mr Jammeh fell short of elaborating on what kind
of punishment awaits the 'mischief makers', he was emphatic that loyalty to
the nation and obedience to lawful command must be the guiding principles of
every soldier and officer and those would not be compromised at any cost.
He was this afternoon addressing over 500 recruits of the intake 28 A,B and
C respectively of the Gambia Armed Forces.
According to Dr. Jammeh, people join the army for various reasons but that
democrats should know that there is no democracy in the army." If you are a
democrat, then army is not for you. Beware that some people would like to
use you for their interest but if you use a stick to poke a fire, the stick
burns first," he informed the recruit at a colourful ceremony at the July 22
Square in Banjul.
He said he is a friend of the army and would be always behind them in all
their operations.
But Jammeh's statement was contrary to the CDS Lang Tombong Tamba's who
earlier on told the recruits that the army has a great role to play in
fostering the country's democratic health. He advised them to adopt and
practice the best ethical conduct, emphasising that the military should be
seen as defenders and not offenders.

Breaking News:Heavy Fighting At Gambia/Senegal Border! Scores of injured patients at Bwiam hospital..
Friday, March 30, 2007 (1826 reads)

By Landing Badjie, Our National Correspondent

Heavy fighting is reported in the Gambia-Senegalese border. According to
hospital sources,a number of injured people are currently being treated at
Sulayman Junkung Hospital in Bwiam and the country's main referral hospital
in Banjul.
The fighting, that displaced many civilians and caused panic in the area, is
reported to be between the forces of MFDC and the Senegalese army.
"Inhabitants of Sutusinjang and other border villages are being warned by
the rebels to stay clear from the bushes. We are living in fear and panic as
fighting continues around the border," a Sutusinjang resident told our
national correspondent.
A contigent of Gambian soldiers were on Tuesday despatched to the area where
the fighting is taking place to cordon off the border. Rebels were reported
to have been crossing into The Gambia to forcefully return their men who
fled into the country to escape the Senegalese offensive.
In recent times, the Gambian government was suspected to be fanning the
Cassamance insurgency by providing sanctuary to the rebels.Sometime ago, the
Senegalese authorities got unhappy with the authorities in Banjul when the
former declined to hand over some men who were suspected of killing a
Senegalese gendarme. Though, it could not be verified whether the Gambian
authorities are sympathetic to the insurgents in Cassamance but what was
verified is that the former MFDC spokesperson, Alexander Gibba, was resident
in The Gambia for a long period without being ruffled.

Gambia: Amnesty International calls for the reopening of The Independent and the release of Chief Manneh
Wednesday, March 28, 2007 (1776 reads)

A year ago today marks the closure of The Independent and the arbitrary arrest and illegal detention of three members of its staff. The suppression of the media and other perceived opponents of the government have been characteristic of the Jammeh government since, 1994 and in the last year alone at least 15 journalists or staff of media institutions have been detained without charge, some held for long periods unlawfully, and some of whom have suffered ill-treatment Amnesty International fears that the curtailment of the right to freedom of expression, including the right to seek, receive and impart information, is in violation of provisions in the Gambian constitution as well as obligations under international human rights treaties to which Gambia is a party, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.Amnesty International calls for the immediate reopening of The Independent, and the immediate unconditional release of Chief Manneh, a reporter of the Daily Observer, whom Amnesty International considers a prisoner of conscience, who has been held in incommunicado detention without charge or trial for close to 9 months since he was taken into police custody.

trial.
The men have, until today, been held under custody at Mile Two in Banjul
following their arrest. They were early last month arrested in Bakau by men
from the Gambia Naval Staff while on their routine sea patrol.
The Senegalese officers are now charged with possession of firearms as well

PANORAMA with 'Bulfaaleh'-Lang Tombong's narrow escape. Tape recorder and Ndure Cham's nephew.
Tuesday, March 27, 2007 (3231 reads)

Lang Tombong a friend or a foe for President Jammeh?
Former COS Ndure Cham's nephew a soldier was planted at the state house in favour of his uncle and who else? This soldier who many call Ndure Cham's nephew was planted at the state house for what? By who and who? These are questions many will continue asking themselves or asking others but so many answers are yet to be known. The last person to know all the real answers will be President Jammeh. He has been blindfolded by the very people he calls his loyalists.Close confidants of Lang himself have spoken. These are leakages that none of them can stop.

PANORAMA with 'Bulfaaleh'-Essa Gibba,Mod Lamin Jarju DIG-NIA,Lang Tombong-Cold Serial Killers!
Tuesday, March 27, 2007 (2585 reads)

Who is Alhaji Essa Gibba?
Alhaji Essa Gibba was born in the village of Ndemban The Gambia West Africa. He was a mediocre student. Later on he disappeared for a while from the country. He was one of those who escaped from home only to be groomed in Libya and then Liberia as a rebel fighter. Essa Gibba has the blood of innocent Liberians in his hands. He looted, killed and raped like any other desperate fighter who went to Liberia during the days of mayhem and havoc. Essa Gibba and others who came back to Banjul after killing so many innocent and unarmed civilians in Liberia were harboured by President Jammeh. Essa Gibba like Baba Jobe should be on the UN list of officials banned from traveling. He should be arrested and judged by the newly formed ICC-International Criminal Court.

THE STUDENT MASSACRE-Former GAMSU Executive Member Reacts To Horomsi's revealing piece!
Monday, March 26, 2007 (2500 reads)

By A Former GAMSU Executive Member

In the year 2000, I was selected as an executive member of The Gambia Students' Union. This organization represents all the students in the country, pertaining to students' welfare. On 1st January 2000, the Union received a complaint from middle school girl, was raped and severely beaten by the national security forces during the school athletic event at the national stadium. The Union investigated the allegation and gathered substantial evidence against the two accused soldiers involved in the rape. The Union President sent letters and visited many government agencies. Despite all these efforts by the union, The Gambia government deliberately turned a blind eye on the issue to downplay the seriousness. More importantly their mere reluctance to bring those responsible to face the ultimate justice was indeed astonishing.

Prose:-If changing this comedy means wrong, then I don't want to be right!
Monday, March 26, 2007 (1708 reads)

Author:Essa Bokarr SEY.

There is a famous verse from the "museum" of music that says:"If loving you is wrong, then I don't wanna be right".This is the sizzling part of a famous song. An opposite end, when one thinks about despair and uncertainty. The context here is for loving, caring and peace. The context here chose love over hate and despair.
This is a context that prefers staying wrong, if loving someone is meant to be wrong. Deep thinking! Indeed deep thinking! There is this place where an opposite context has been wrapped within another concept. In this place masked comedians are guarding the guillotine. They behead for no reason and scrape blood while laughing. If laughter is good medicine, then in this place it has no active ingredients. Laughing where sorrow is flying like a kite means joy has been misunderstood. What a misfortune! This is why minds should fly faster than these kites! After all minds are the cradles of brains whereas kites are inanimate. Deep thinking! That is the possible route! We have to get one big single sickle to be able to mow this grassy yard.

Horomsi:Remembering our murdered students!Gamsu executive consists of nia agents!
Sunday, March 25, 2007 (2556 reads)

Horomsi: In few weeks time, Gambians will mark the brutal killing of our loved ones by Jammeh's blood thirsty security forces. About 14 unarmed students were murdered in cold blood by men of the Gambia National Army and the infamous police intervention unit the (PIU). Vicious President Yahya Jammeh gave orders for the students killings and had since been trying to mend fences with the country's main student body, the Gambia student union (GAMSU). After killing our sons and daughters in the name of maintaining national security,President Jammeh embarked on a reconciliation crusade by trying to induce student leaders. The inducement is in the form  of monetary, material and jobs. The likes of Alhagie Nyabally, Ebrima Dibba and others who refused to be corrupted suffered all kinds of persecution under Jammeh's watch. Nyabally in particular was arrested on numerous occasions by the feared National Intelligence Agency the (NIA). The NIA accused him of inciting violence and also disrespecting the President. Widely known as "Mandella." Nyabally was brave enough to call President Jammeh a hypocrite.  Nyabally accuses Jammeh of  trying divide and rule Gambian students. Nyabally who spoke during the second commemoration of the April 10 bloody incident, was uncomfortable with the formation of the new pro-government student body called "NAPSA." NAPSA was the brain child of the jailed Jarra West Parliamentarian, cum Majority leader Baba K Jobe. Jobe believes that with the coming of NAPSA, GAMSU was bound to suffer a "natural death." to borrow his expression. Jobe and the President were working alongside to end GAMSU in the country or weaken its activities. They clandestinely recruited NIA agents at GAMSU and NAPSA. These agents are school going students on the NIA payroll. They are paid at month end even though they were students.  Their job was to monitor students activities, private citizens and members of the security forces. Horomsi was opportuned to interview some of the "students" NIA agents recruited by Baba Jobe and the President. I  will explain my findings later on in this write up.
