Gambia: Editorial: Is Jammeh Trying To Buy ECOWAS?
Monday, April 30, 2012 (2940 reads)

Editorial: Is Jammeh Trying To Buy ECOWAS?

Gambia’s dictator Yaya Jammeh, who is a renowned drug and arms dealer in the region, is desperately using his materialistic wealth to win political support in the continent. Mr. Jammeh is working very hard to mend fences with the African Bloc, ECOWAS, which recently declared his regime as non democratic, following his fraudulent fourth term reelection into office. When ECOWAS initiated a peace deal talk meeting in Abidjan with the view of bringing an end to coups and counter coups in Mali and cocaine hub nation Guinea Bissau, Gambia’s indicted arms trafficker President Yahya Jammeh offered to freely airlift the delegates from Malia, Bissau, and Guinea Conakry, who were billed to attend the Abidjan meeting. Jammeh’s  private jet was dispatched to pickup the delegates, who later joined Jammeh in Banjul, where they flew together to Ivory Coast. Interesting!

THE GAMBIA’S DRUG MENACE: WHAT THE JAMMEH KUNDA CLAN HAS TO SAY?

By An Insider Banjul

This morning I was forwarded the story you published on Freedom Newspaper online about Ben Jammeh’s brother, also a Police Officer caught with drugs and now remanded at the Brikama Police Station. I wonder why would this is coming from the Jammeh Kunda Clan again. I am also a Police Officer and a very educated one for that matter.  We are talking about the custodian of the country’s drug laws now caught in the middle of a drug row involving his own brother. In developed countries, Ben Jammeh should have been looking for a job at this point not going to the Brikama Police Station to intimidate the Police Officers or interfere with the integrity of the witnesses.

Jammeh Supporter Attacks Freedom Newspaper Editorial Staff—Accusing Freedom Of Biased Reporting!

By Mamadou Jallow

Mr. Editor,

I wonder if you know the messages your so-called writers are spreading or advocating. The Gambia, my home, is home to the best people but not crooks like you and unprofessional journalist who are sat in your comfortable seats and and misleading the concern citizens of the little peaceful nation abroad. I have been following your articles for the last 11 months. At first, I thought there is something going on in The Gambia that needed sorting but, after a brief visit, to my surprise it's the opposite. I don't know what you have against the ruling party but there is something itching you and your journalist that you hiding in you.

“Free the Press”: Leadership for the Future

(Editorial by D. Bruce Wharton, Deputy Assistant Secretary, AF)

Information is life. People cannot make a living, hold their governments accountable, or educate their children without a healthy supply of free- flowing information. Citizens need accurate, timely, independent news they can trust. So do businesses and markets…and governments. Media freedom keeps societies and economies vibrant, energetic, and healthy. When the free flow of news and information is cut off, individuals suffer. Societies and economies suffer. Media freedom is enshrined in the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states: “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.”

Ben Jammeh’s Brother Landing Jammeh; A Police Officer  Arrested With Five Kilos Of Cannabis Sativa!

BRIKAMA POLICE OC MALUT SALL FEARS LOSING HIS JOB!

By Our Own Correspondent Banjul

The Brikama police said they have detained the “blood brother” of the NDEA boss Benedict Jammeh, one Landing Jammeh, a police officer, who was arrested at the Kembuja checkpoint with five kilograms of cannabis sativa by the personnel of the police intervention unit (PIU), the Freedom Newspaper can report. Landing Jammeh, who goes with the aliases Kanilai; his regimental badge number with the Gambia police force is: 1131, a senior police chief tells this news medium. Ben’s brother was trying to traffic drugs, which he bought from the MFDC rebels after returning from his native village Kanila, sources said. A good number of Gambian security officers are involved in the drug trade. They usually travel to Cassamance, where they buy cannabis from the MFDC rebels at a cheap price and resell it in the market. The rebels in turn use such funds to secure arms, food, and household needs for their fighters in the bush.

GOODBYE MY DEAR FANS: MY LAST ONLINE CONTRIBUTON ON GAMBIAN ISSUES!

By Prince Bubacarr Aminata Sankanu

No, I have not taken an oath of secrecy requiring total break-up of direct unvetted communication with all and sundry! As the African saying goes, if you can influence or inspire at least one thousand people, you do not belong to yourself but to those thousand people. My cozy place in the hearts of my fans is more important to me than the Oscars, the Pulitzer Prize and other accolades. My leading fans Alhassan Darboe, Jainaba Houson and all those who preferred to be addressed as secret admirers, when I went into a writing strike in the past, you guys prevailed on me to suspend the strike and write for the sake of humanity. I proudly honoured your request.

Gambia’s Aviation Boss Detained!

As Jammeh Ordered For The Confiscation Of The Passports Of GCAA Managers

Fansu Bojang, the Director General of The Gambia Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), has been arrested, the Freedom Newspaper has been reliably informed. Mr. Bojang, who has been working at GCAA, until President Jammeh’s recent trip to Ivory Coast, was picked up in his office by security agents shortly after Jammeh had left  Gambia’s airspace for Abidjan. The arrest of the GCAA boss came in the wake of the seizure of his passport, including that of the other top officials of the GCCA by the state. Mr. Bojang’s “poor handling of the airport’s environmental sanitation” seems to have angered dictator Jammeh. This was evident when Mr. Jammeh couldn’t hide his “utter displeasure and dissatisfaction” at the state of affairs at the airport terminal during one of his trips to Dakar.

REJOINDER: UDP REACTS TO EBRIMA NDOW’S FREEDOM INTERVIEW

By Ebrima Solo Sandeng,

Secretary General

UDP Youth Wing

The article in your paper captioned  “ Breaking News: ”  in  which Mr. Ebou Ndow was reported to have resigned from the UDP, attracted my attention.  Resignations and departures   and departures do take place in the live of all organisations the world over but generally, except in case of crises,  people who resign do so without fanfare or recriminations and I don’t believe that there has been any crisis in our party to warrant the diatribe and fabrications that Mr. Ndow, a founder member of the UDP ,made in his interview.
