Important Announcement:Redesigning work currently underway at Freedom!!
Wednesday, May 30, 2007 (1373 reads)

The Freedom Newspaper Management wishes to inform its esteem readers, supporters and well-wishers about a redesigning work currently underway at our site. Our engineers are busy redesigning the site in a bid to improve its outlook. Please bear with us during this period, as the site might experience some interruptions at some point. As we grow as a leading news outlet, we deem it crucially imperative to make this site reader friendly, appealing, standard and up-to-date. All these required  money and we count on you to keep this paper going.

We must admit that without our hard working reporters in the Gambia and some local staffers here, the Freedom Newspaper would not have reached  to this stage today. We are well read, accessed and circulated. Over 8,000 people visits this paper daily according to a statistical report provided to us by our host Pointclicktec Company. The Freedom Newspaper is therefore growing at a fast rate. It worth  it to advertise with such a well read and respectable paper. It pays-off at the end of the day.

Policy makers, researchers, universities, and other organizations used the Freedom Newspaper for their source of news. The paper devotes too much time to tell the Gambian story as it obtained  today. We report the news without any form of biasness, grudge or ill will. Our stories are balanced, objective, accurate, and up-to-date.

As usual, we are here to provide you good stuff  every morning. Our team of correspondents are working round the clock, across the country to get you good morning start with our in-depth and comprehensive news coverage.  We believe  in writing news and not history. We always encourage our correspondents to avoid filing stale stories. We have no room for stale stories. Gambians are in dire need of fresh and accurate information. We shall continue to meet your needs and expectations, God willing.

We have expanded our news coverage to rural Gambia, with Correspondent Wise Man heading our Western Division offices. Bolong Jammeh is in charge of national local politics, while Landing Badjie heads our Banjul Bureau. We are investing on these reporters in a bid to get you true stories about Gambian related news. A true and serious Newspaper cannot  survived in the absence of reporters and Editors. That’s why we at the Freedom Newspaper are giving priority to hiring Gambian local reporters to help us realize the media project we have for our dear countrymen and women. We are ready to spend our last dime to keep this paper running. We thank you for your attention.

Signed………..

Jammeh very      Wade accused! Sabally implicated!
angry with Wade

Following revelations on disturbing security issues between the Gambia and Senegal, The Gambian Government has resorted to blocking the Freedom Newspaper IP address once again. The move was designed to deny Gambians acces to the widely read Newspaper. Our Correspondent Wise Man said he tried to access the Freedom Newspaper on numerous occasions but without success. We ran a lead story about two NIA agents and a Custom official who were arrested after they were accused of allowing rebels loyal to fugitive Colonel Ndure Cham to enter into the West African country. Sources close to GAMTEL said the President instructed them to block the Freedom Newspaper IP address since the papper according to these sources was "exposing matters of national security." The government believes that the Freedom Newspaper recent story might cause wave of unrest, panic and anxiety among the Gambian populace. The US State Department and press freedom supporters are here informed about the “UnGodly act” taken by the Jammeh administration to deny Gambians access to reliable and credible Gambian news. This is the second time in a spand of two years that this government has blocked our IP address. Below is the story which angered the Gambian government. Please read on….

The arrested security officials posted at the Dasilami border post near the town of Brikama were identified as Sarjo Kuyateh, NIA operative, Musa Kebbeh, also an NIA operative and  Bolong Mara Sanneh, a  local Custom border agent. The men who were arrested this past week were accused of allowing "undercover dissident rebels" to enter into the Gambia's territorial borders without proper screening, thereby endangering what the State House sources called" Gambia's peace and stability." NIA investigators say the dissidents were allegedly sent to survey key security instillations across the country by Colonel Ndure Cham, Captain Sana Bairo Sabally, Major Kalipha Bajinka and one Lieutenant Yankuba Badjie in a bid to launch an attack against the Gambia. The men in question are said to be residing in neighboring Senegal according to the NIA investigators. The three border security agents are currently helping the NIA in their investigations.

The Secretary of State for Tourism, Ms. Angela Colley, has now become a thorn on the flesh of many in her line ministry. Madam SoS is accused of, among other things, of being jet-happy as she trots the globe at the expense of pressing home-needs. According to sources in the inner circle of the tourism ministry, Ms. Colley is now seen in that ministry as greedy and selfish as she gives no-one theopportunity to represent her in overseas trips whenever the need arises.

Gambia UPDATE:  State prosecutor asks court to jail newspaper journalist, publishers

The prosecutor in the trial of Lamin Fatty, a reporter with the banned Banjul-based bi-weekly "The Independent" newspaper, who is being tried for allegedly publishing “false information” on May 23, 2007 asked the Court to convict the journalist of the charge. Momodou Mballow also requested that in addition to the conviction of Fatty, “The Independent” Media Company, publishers of the newspaper should be held liable for the same offence. Mballow who was making his submission at the Kanifing Magistrate’s Court said since the exhibits presented to the court had been further corroborated by the evidence of three prosecution witnesses, the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and as such the court should  convict the journalist. If convicted, Fatty faces a minimum of one year in jail with an option of a fine of not less than 50, 000 dalasis (about 1,850 US$), or both. Fatty is charged under Section 181 of the Criminal Code which in its amended form makes the publication of "false information" a criminal and punishable offence.

Commissionedby the Freedom Newspaper.

Highly placed sources close to the office of the President in Banjul have exposed ongoing moves to marginalize deserving Gambian students from a Presidential scholarship, which was earmarked for 300 students to further their studies overseas. According to these sources in the heart of Jammeh‘s government, plans were afoot to redirect the said scholarships to the Fonis and families who extend political support to the Ruling APRC Government. Already, the newly appointed Inspector General of police Brenard Jammeh and the Foni Kansala National Assembly Member Abba Sanyang have  been delegated to collect the certificates of about 200 youths in the Fonis, in a bid to facilitate their overseas studies. State House sources said these students were compensated for spearheading  “no oppose in some localities in the Fonis in the last Presidential and Parliamentary elections, even though an Independent candidate succeeded in winning a seat in that pro government region of the Gambia. The Jammeh scholarship Trust Fund as it is called,  covers a wide range of  disciplines, with special emphasis on Science, Medicines, Engineering, and Agriculture would commence in September 2007.

Breaking News:GRTS Producer Pa Modou Faal Fired due to alleged ties with the Freedom Newspaper!!
Wednesday, May 23, 2007 (2211 reads)

Sos  Gaye

By Our Chief National Correspondent Landing Badjie.
Paid for and Commissioned by the Freedom Newspaper.

Modou Sanyang of GRTS is looking for a replacement for Pa Modou Faal, a sports Producer with the TV. It is in connection with Freedom newspaper arrest sometime back and Modou is trying to please Jammeh by sacking Faal.Sanyang, appointed by Jammeh and seen as Jammeh's boy boy, is still bitter with Mr.Faal. The decision is said to be not in the best interest of Jammeh though.Insiders at the GRTS said Producer Faal was reporting on bail prior to his sacking. Attempts by Faal to convince his employer that he had no ties with the Freedom Newspaper felt into deaf ears. Momodou Sanyang maintains that the Producer got to go since the office of the President had mounted pressure on him for Faal to be fired. Mr.Faal who is currently jobless has denied ever working for the Freedom Newspaper in a statement submitted to the NIA. He was released on bail pending the outcome of their investigations. This paper also gathered that Faal tried to engage the services of a lawyer should the Gambian state went ahead to press charges against him. Inside the GRTS, shock and disbelief gripped local staffers. "We cannot believe that this government can go extra mile to penalize our colleague for nothing. Faal has been a good worker, very friendly and sociable. He loves what he was doing here. He is a victim of state heavy handedness. This is just outrageous and ridiculous." said an insider at the GRTS  who wished not be named.
