….As Mass Sacking Grips Cabinet

Njogu Bah, Tenengba Jaiteh, Abdoulie Sallah And Others Redeployed!!!

Agriculture Perm Sec Fired!!!

By Staff Writer Bakary Gibba and Justice Sam, Banjul.

Following the unceremonious sacking and expulsion of Gambia’s Fisheries Minister Yankuba Touray,  from the Ruling APRC, facts are emerging about the circumstances surrounding his removal.  The disgraced Minister was shown the exit door for  "insubordination and gross incompetence" to discharge his duties as a Minister, sources here said today.  According to highly placed authoritative sources, the erstwhile APRC chief propagandist has been in the business of delaying Government projects. A classical example, continued our sources was the much talked about “ fishing market”, which is yet to kickoff the ground.  Touray, they went on has been too preoccupied with private errands to the expense of his Ministry. Sources said there are numerous projects currently stalled at the Fisheries Department.

Michael Scales On World Financial Market

Dear Mr. Editor,

The world financial markets couldn't have done much better if they had been following Freedom Newspapers track and account of the credit crunch over the last 18 months or so.…In September 2007, I predicted accurately that the world financial markets would hit an economic tsunami. I advised that the depth of the economic recession would be gauged by the rapid decline in the price of crude oil. At the time crude was still on its meteoric rise reaching $157 dollars per barrel, with many annalists predicting it to top $200 dollars per barrel.

Still More Questions left unaswered

By Sheriff

It is obvious that there are still more questions left unanswered by Yahya Jammeh and his mafia counterparts. I am not scared to talk and I will never be scared to talk. I started by writing my articles by wiriting my name as THE DEMOCRAT but Mr. President, I have got enough of you and I have to come out point blank. Do not take my writings as threats, these are challenges for us all Gambians.  True, we are facing hard times and nothing is easy in our today’s world; but governments around the world are doing all they can to stabilise the current economic hardship their countries are going through.

Michael Scales On Global Economic Crisis

Dear Mr. Editor,

For as long as I can remember, when manhood decreed I was entitled to an opinion, I have always thought the Prime difference between America and Britain, was that America views the world as being in its own national interest and we in Britain view the world as being  in the peoples interest. Some would argue that in this, their is no difference,  but on closer inspection, I believe their is a vast difference. Empires come and Empires go, with the balance of power changing like shifting sands. For more than a century, the world has been driven by the American dream of wealth determined by profitability and mass production.... the essence of American capitalism and its mandate is fundamentally underpinned by the dogma of Adam Smith. Smith believed that Governments should only act in areas restricted to Security, Education and Law. That the citizen if left to his or her own devices would create the" Wealth of Nations" without the need for restriction or trade tariffs or abundant taxation and boundary protection.

A Trip To Banjul- A visitor’s firsthand account information!!!

By Batch Samba Baldeh

After a trip to my birth country in 2007, I wrote an article entitle “What is wrong Mama Africa”. I just came back again from there but this time I spent almost halve of the time in Dakar, Senegal. As usual most of my friends here and back home knew I was gone and once I returned to the USA the debate and discussions started about “How is the Gambia… How about Yahya Jammeh… What do you think about developments in Gambia… What has changed…etc etc?” Those who knew I was in Senegal too ask a lot of questions about that country’s politics and their president – Abdoulie Wade; particularly in comparison with the Gambia. It also happened that it’s my turn to write an article for the African Association in Madison newsletter. While I am still not sure if I should title this article as the previous, I though putting some thing in writing will be a good start in sharing my experience.

The Report is in!  Who is Responsible for the Deaths?

By  Scott A Morgan

It was an International Incident that was not widely reported by the Major International News Outlets. In July 2005 the Bodies of 44 Ghanaian Nationals were discovered in the Tangy Forest in Gambia. It was determined that the victims were lured from Senegal to Gambia with the Promise of Transportation to New Lives in Europe. Sadly this would not be the case. Last August a Joint Commission comprising the United Nations and ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) was set up to investigate what actually occurred during this incident.
