"If you were Gambian..."
Open letter to journalists covering the African Union (AU) summit
Dear colleagues,
Since you have been sent to Banjul to
cover the African Union (AU) summit, Reporters Without Borders suggests
that just for a few moments you put yourself in the place of a Gambian
journalist and try to imagine the suffering they endure at the hands of
the government of Yahya Jammeh. Because if you were Gambian, like the
journalist on the privately-owned biweekly, The Independent, Lamin
Fatty, a police commando could have turned up at your home and arrested
you unceremoniously, on 12 April 2006. In defiance of every legal
procedure, you could have been questioned about the content of one of
your articles, along with the manager and editor of your newspaper, who
had already been held for two weeks, with no right to see a lawyer, in
a cell at the HQ of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) at the end
of a street leading to the presidency. Like him, you would probably not
have known that while you were in custody, on 25 May, the Gambian
justice minister, hand on heart, swore to general amazement, before the
African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights, meeting just kilometres
away that “no journalist is currently in prison” in Gambia.

PANORAMA with 'Bulfaaleh'-A detainee forced to stay quiet with foam 'sponge' CHIAKAS in action. Thursday, June 29, 2006 (855 reads)
The ordeal of detainees in Mile Two, foam used to stop then from screaming out of pain...

Mile
Two Prison wardens could simply not stop themselves from exposing the
evil things President Jammeh is doing to Gambians behind bars. One of
the relatives of the dead detainees could simply not stop his tears
from rolling down his cheeks, when he heard this story of torture and
pain. What President Jammeh is doing to those detainees at Mile Two and
the NIA Chambers cannot be explained in detail on this paper. It is so
graphic and bad to say the least. We cannot explain these things in
detail out of respect for those affected. This of course excludes the
explanations I received from a doctor who relayed to me what he heard
from a relative of one of the detainees. These relatives have given
up on trying to get their relatives out.
 Tortured by Jammeh's chickas

AU will no longer recognises government that comes through coups-Banjul Summit to discuss the issue today!!! Thursday, June 29, 2006 (544 reads)
The African Union meeting currently underway in The Gambia will today discussed the need to enforce an AU Charter that will finally banned coups on the continent. The said subject is viewed as very controversial in many quarters, as host country The Gambia and some other states came through a coup. Countries who came through the barrel of the gun according to observers might lacked the moral obligation to comment more on the said subject. Coups had always been termed as "undemocratic and unconstitutional moves." For the AU to come up with such a topical issue at this hour would be welcomed by pro democracy groups and promoters. But what many could not understand is that why the delay to enforce the said Charter, when leaders like Gambia's President Yahya Jammeh came through illegal means.
The AU which is widley accused in some quaters of "double standards" is expected to discuss the need for African Heads of State to concede defeat whenever their opponents emerge victorious in future elections. Also expected to high on the agenda was to set up a term limit for the Presidency to discourage power drunken leaders like Jammeh to further cling on to power. The Freedom Newspaper culled the below piece from the BBC website. The commentary above is from our editorial team. Please read the full story of the BBC on the Banjul AU Summit. .................................................................................. AU to discuss democracy charter
Meeting host Yahya Jammeh came to power through a coup
|
African Union foreign ministers meeting in the Gambian capital,
Banjul, are to discuss proposals for a charter on democracy and
governance.
The charter would aim to make it easier for power to
change hands through the ballot box, but a BBC correspondent says some
clauses are contentious.
Several leaders have tried to overturn constitutional bans on presidents serving more than two terms in office. The AU is already supposed to suspend governments which take power by arms.

Horomsi:First Lady Zeinab Suma Jammeh has nothing to lose-What about the Moroccan and Guinean mansons? Thursday, June 29, 2006 (1140 reads)
Horomsi:First Lady Zeinab Suma Jammeh has nothing to lose-What about the Moroccan and Guinean mansons?
Horomsi:Gambia's divorced first lady Zeinab Suma Jammeh is posed to
expose Jammeh in days to come. The First lady knows a lot about the
Kanilai, mistaken President. Zeinab has nothing to lose after all. She
succeeded in amassing wealth from this "daft and ignorant" President.
Already, there is a manson built for her in Morocco and Guinea Conakry.
There are business centres opened for her in Morocco by Jammeh. The
lady is good to go. She has nothing to regret. If there is any regrets,
it should be from Jammeh's end and not Zeinab.
Horomsi will be travelling to Morocco to meet Zeinab

Breaking News:Has Jammeh finally divorces First Lady Zeinab Suma Jammeh? State House sources say Zeinab will not attend the AU Summit!!!
By Staff Writers JUSTICE SAM AND KARAFA BADJIE
It appears that Gambia's President Yahya Jammeh will not be accompanied
by his first Lady Zeinab Suma Jammeh to the much talked about African Union Summit,
scheduled to take place in Banjul on July 1ST and 2ND, as State House
insiders hinted about the final collapse of his marriage with the
Moroccan woman. State House sources have it that the first lady had
finally been divorced by Jammeh after months of "strained relationship"
between the two couples. Initially, the Gambian leader refuses to grant
the first lady divorce despite numerous demands. The whole
problem between Jammeh and Zeinab started when the Kanilai former
wrestler started seeing a Banjul lady called Amina Cole. The
President's late night outings and lack of attention to the First Lady
seems to have triggered the matrimonial failure. Zeinab said our source
usually confronts Jammeh each time he Jammeh returns from his "unusual
late night outing."
Ndeysan Zeinab is gone. Very sad for a ruthless dictator.

PANORAMA with 'Bulfaaleh'-Polygamy at state house,DIVA FASHION Conakry,Aziz Tamba talks. Tuesday, June 27, 2006 (1212 reads)
Is President Jammeh not a polygamous man now?
At
least former President Dawda Jawara did not hide when he married his
second wife. He did so openly with courage and readiness to face the
traditional repercussions(if there were to be any)? Sir Dawda would
certainly laugh at this one if he sees this tease towards him. Today we
have a macho man called President Jammeh trying to tie the knot in
hiding? On the whole Zeinab Suma is our region's amazon fighter?
Zeinab
does not talk but she knows how to roll those 'kaalas' around the neck
of a man who thinks we as Gambians fear him so much. Is that not
absurd?
It is the same Myriam who informed
Zeinab about the Basse girl BINTA JALLOH. A girl President wanted to
marry during his tours in that region. This is why President Jammeh
will be really angry when he reads or hears about this latest
revelation on him. President Jammeh has to remember that he declared a
war against Marabouts like Boggal and Yero .He knows Yero anyway. Yero
predicted that Jammeh was allowed to rule for only 9 years by hidden
forces. President Jammeh hates Yero for this. His secrets are coming
out because these marabouts have sworn that he will be exposed beyond
redemption. It looks like this is true you know... Nowadays I
'Bulfaaleh' receive so much so that I cannot write all this at once.
Jammeh finally divorced Zeinba story coming later...
