PDOIS REBUFFS DARBOE’S CLAIMS ABOUT NADD!!!

With barely few months ahead of Gambia’s Presidential elections, the opposition PDOIS is dismissing claims made by the leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP’S) Ousainanou Darboe that the registration of the NADD as a political party  was a big “disaster” for the country’s opposition. The PDOIS leadership rejected Mr. Darboe’s assertions—saying that all parties including the UDP signed a memorandum of understanding—agreeing for NADD to register as a party. The PDOIS leadership maintains that there was no error in the registration of NADD as a party. “PDOIS wrote to UDP before its Congress to indicate to them that the party was waiting for the resolution of the UDP Congress on inter party unity in order to know what form of Alliance could be forged for 2011.  The UDP leader, in his address to the Congress indicated that the registration of NADD was a disaster. PDOIS would want its supporters in particular and all those interested in Gambian politics in general to know that the registration of NADD was Constitutional requirement. No candidate could contest under NADD without its registration as a political party. PDOIS advances a challenge to any leader who disagrees with this view. Hence those who did not support the registration of NADD should not have signed the Memorandum of Understanding establishing NADD,” said a PDOIS statement signed by the party’s spokesman veteran politician Halifa Sallah.

Two senior officials of Gambia’s National Drug Enforcement Agency have been arrested, following their alleged involvement in facilitating the release of suspects linked to drug trafficking, the Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively report. The suspects were recently nabbed with a large quantity of marijuana—only to be released on bail by the NDEA command in Sibanorr. The conditions attached to their bailing never went down well with some local staffers of the NDEA—amidst allegations of official corruption. Among those arrested were: the officer commanding Sibanorr, in Foni Bintang Karanai District Samba Juma Camara and his Deputy Jerry Jarju. The men are currently detained at the Mile Two Central Prisons in Banjul, where they have been held since the commencement of the Kanilai International Festival, sources said.

ARREST WARRANT FOR KOMBO SOUTH CHIEF

The Kombo South land dispute is brewing again, with the Brikama Magistrates court issuing a bench warrant for the arrest of the District Chief Sheriff Ajjeh Janneh.  Mr. Janneh would  be arrested if seen within the locality.  He is wanted in connection with some land cases he presided over in the past, which needed clarification, judicial sources said. The officer commanding Western Region Criminal Investigations unit Pa Kebba Darboe placed numerous calls to Mr. Janneh’s home Monday, but Kombo South Chief never returns his phone calls. He was indisposed at the material time.
