THE PRISM OF DESPAIR-YAHYA JAMMEH'S REMOVAL WILL COME AS A THUNDER BOLT!
Tuesday, July 31, 2007 (894 reads)

By Timbuktu

Certainly the polemics of Gambian politics have left so much to be desired these days. Indeed the APRC Government is using the innauguration of structures to cover up the latest scandals coming from a former bandit-friend called Governor Kalu. Who does not know Kalu in The Gambia today? From his days with the ex-head of the FIB Mr Tamu Njie to now Kalu has been part of the royal barons in our land of "wild" corruption. There is no need for the Nigerian EFCC to waste their resources when Investigation Kalu's actions in The Gambia.

By: Jadama Sadibu (Stockholm Sweden)

As a regular contributor to most Gambian online newspapers and also a contributor to the opinion of their section, I have observed a rather disturbing development that ought to be discouraged if we as Gambian Journalist and honest contributors want to be seen as very responsible and accountable citizens.

CLOSING UP ON THE CULTURE OF IMPUNITY-Feature Story
Tuesday, July 31, 2007 (338 reads)

BY BINNEH S MINTEH: Lieutenant Rtd

Today marks another victory for international justice as former Cambodian brutal rulers are indicted by a UN-backed tribunal for crimes against humanity. It could be recalled that during the 1970's over a million people in Cambodia were brutally murdered and tortured by the notorious Khmer Rouge regime. This is another manifestation of the closure or the putting of a dead end to the culture of impunity and a lesson for those remaining tyrants and ruthless murderers around the world.

Breaking News: The Big Interview: Lamin Waa Juwara Speaks! Part Three!!
Monday, July 30, 2007 (934 reads)

"I don't have  problem of meeting Jammeh.  He just a Gambian like myself.  What's the problem about meeting him?  When President Jawara was in power, I met him  several times.  What is wrong about that?  Even if you want to meet Jammeh I can arraign it so that you can come back home.  What's wrong about that?  You  want to …. Pa I want you to come.  Let go to Niamina. What's wrong about coming home?  These people are scared of out of nothing.  You are scared of being arrested? Why should they arrest you?   Jammeh accepted Juwara to be in The Gambia. I'm older than him. I was born and I was a Gambian before him.  Am I not here? If Juwara can be in The Gambia, why not Pa Nderry? Any Gambian can come to The Gambia. So What? You will not be arrested.  I see no reason why you should be arrested. Why should you be arrested?  What have you done to be arrested?  Anyway, I don't know. Pa Nderry, you and I who is more oppose to Jammeh?  Just to be honest.  Who was more his opponent me and you?  You and I?" These were the exact words of Lamin Waa Juwara . Mr.Juwara's  proposed mediation between Yahya Jammeh and Editor M'Bai, which was  respectfully declined by the Editor. M'Bai informed Juwara that he had no intention of visiting or getting closer to the Gambia in the short term as long as Yahya Jammeh continues to be President of that West African country. But Juwara insists that he would guarantee M'Bai's personal safety should he have any plans to visit home. Juwara says he was committed to take up the issue with the Gambian leader, but M'Bai maintains that he was not interested about talking to an evil despot like Jammeh. Juwara also had this message for Gambians abroad" I'm telling Gambians  abroad that Gambia belongs to us Gambians.  Gambians abroad who really want to be active in politics, I will tell them to come back home and we should  see what we can do about  our own country.  I'm not saying that everything in the Gambia is rosy.  That would be very hypocritical  without saying, I think there are many areas that we need improvement and as long as I live here I will be able to speak my mind and say what I think is right.  I may not be right, I may not be wrong.  But what is important….There is nothing wrong to be critic.  We must be action orientated. That's important.  What you have to realize is that Jammeh has been in power for 13 years. That's longtime you know….  Jammeh is not as bad as we have been saying.  If people can vote for him in free and fair elections, who Am I to say that they are wrong. They should not have done that." Below is the part three of the interview.

By Michael Scale UK,

Dear Mr Editor,
I remain inspired by your seamless and untireing effort to expose ,crime and corruption ,through this medium. No matter what the risk. What is transpiring in Nigeria, has the most profound implication for every African .There benevolence of credence given to the Law and moral accountability of Government,if successful, will give  hope to the poor, and  voice to the voiceless. Its repercussion will resound for at least the next generation. In my view,  all that Africa needs to become great..is Time and Moral conscience.

By Essa Bokarr Sey

We once heard this from traditional Nigeria:-
"....When the lizard falls from the top of an Iroko tree if anyone does not praise the lizard,it will praise itself...." This is why I chose to use the traditional values therefore send countless "Kudos" to the management of the paper. The heat is too much but there are characters working as insulators. The dedication is next to nothing!  This is not cheap dedication.

JAWARA"Versus" JAMMEH THE
CHOSEN "Versus" THE IMPOSED

It is close to 16 years now, when I left my dear little Gambia for the world wider and more complex than my own little Gambia. Little did I know that it was a farewell that would last for a long time, sixteen good years and counting! I left the Gambia on reasons similar to many others from our dear sweet home, with a dream to return home one day, to serve and be part of the mechanisms that drive our country forward. I belong to the hustling generation simply because we could not dream of earning government scholarships to go further our educations somewhere in the wider world.

Civic Mindedness and Participation Essential for Democracy to Work

Some 2,500 years ago Athens and some Ancient Greek City-States practice direct democracy. The word democracy comes from the Greek demos meaning "the people" and kratia, meaning "rule". Direct democracy is when the people participate directly in government decision making. Every Athenian citizen participated in the governing assembly and voted on all major issues.
