Foroyaa Newspaper Under Whose Service?

By Our Banjul Bureau Chief Ansumana Jammeh

Banjul:8/30/08-Foroyaa's Wednesday Editorial titled "FOROYA ON THE SPOT LIGHT.” was meant to react to the Freedom Newspaper recent lead story, in which we reported about the paper’s late payment of July Freelance wages. The two faces of the paper were full of booming sounds. The editorial stated  that any freelance reporter who goes to another Paper to claim that he or she did receive his income piecemeal from Foroyaa in July has a case. This is a clear indication of the bureaucratic nature of the paper and its harsh response to the Freedom Newspaper by woefully failing to tell the  management the whole truth about the saga.

Editorial: MP Oley Sey Faces False Checks Investigatios!!!

Banjul:8/29/08-When we reported about former MP Oley Sey’s false check scandal, the state never came out in the open to confirm our story. It claimed that the disgraced former nominated MP embezzled Presidential funds meant for educational purposes. The Banjul based Point Newspaper  on its lead story Thursday captioned “ Oley Sey in trouble again, accused of issuing false checks.”quoted the police prosecutor Cadet Inspector Keita, as having said that there were  numerous complaints brought against the embattled former lawmaker, linking her to the issuance of false checks.  However, Keita did not name names, but insist that the court should deny the accused person bail. Keita argues that if the accused person “ is granted bail, it would jeopardize the ongoing police investigations on Oley Sey’s case.”

By Our Banjul Bureau Chief, Ansumana Jammeh

Banjul:8/26/08-Thorough investigations conducted by the Freedom Newspaper divulged that the condition of Foroyaa workers, particularly journalists, working at that Paper looks rather precarious, as they still cannot get their wages for the month of July. Breaking News:The Big Interview: Michale Scales Tells It All!!!

The Big Interview: Michale Scales Tells It All!!!

“You know Pa....Jammeh has many good sides as well as his outrageous side and his wild comments, which damage him. He could not survive so long if it were not for his close advisers. But he has learned the art of survival. It must be incredibly hard to live constantly in fear of death or another coup d'eta. We have all lived with him for so long. I regret I never met him. His brother tried to arrange a meeting several times. The closest I got was his mother and his immediate family. I liked his mother. Though she was very suspicious of me at first. When we parted, she was kindness herself, and she had an amazing sense of humour.I was surprised that they didn't live in more comfort. His brother has been to Darfur twice. The young man I knew before he went was not the same when he came back. You could see on his face that he had witnessed too much for any man. I have not changed my opinion. I think Jammeh is plagued by demons. You know I came from a very poor background. Money did not ever bring me happiness. It brought opportunity. If I die tomorrow, I will have done my bit. Life is like a relay race....we carry the baton to the next guy. The focus at the start of the journey is to survive and run as fast as" hell”. When you get to my age you stop looking forward and start to look back. The Gambia for me was the high point.Jammeh should leave behind something inherently good. If he makes it to my age, he will value what was good. The rest was just experience.” Michael Scales tells the Freedom Newspaper in an Exclusive interview today.
