Breaking News:Jammeh's Plot Against Edu Singhateh Exposed! Koro's name Rings At The State House!

A New Deal For Baba Jobe's Release reached-Sussan Waffa Oggo drove close to Edu before his death!

Leaks from the state house say the Gambian leader is planning to frame Edward Singhateh in a bid to welcome back the jailed Jarra MP Baba K Jobe to the APRC camp. If the state house leaks are to go by the President is out for an all out war with the Singhatehs. He wants to blame them for the death of Gambia's Finance Minister Ousman Koro Ceesay, who was found burnt beyond recognition some years ago in his government allocated car. The President's recent remark that Ministers who committed murder should confess to him signals that the President was sending an early warning to his longtime colleagues. Insiders at the state house say the Gambian President believe that the best way to woe Baba Jobe to the APRC was to disown Edward and his brother Colonel Peter Singhateh.

WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND: IS FORMER CHILEAN LEADER GENERAL PINOCHET UNDER THE RADAR OF POETIC JUSTICE?

BY BINNEH S MINTEH

The case of former Chilean Dictator General Augusto Pinochet has once again hit the international media with more attention; this time in a different dimension. In 1998 the Pinochet conundrum took center stage in the media when he was arrested in London under an extradition request by Spain. Although the British Lord judges ruled that Pinochet could be extradited under the torture convention, he was released for medical and other reasons. Today, the 90-year-old general is under house arrest and charged with kidnapping, homicide, and torture committed between 1974 and 1977. Over 3,000 people were murdered and tortured during Pinochet’s tenure as the ruler of Chile.

Breaking News:Even If You Kill Tell Me- Jammeh Tells New Ministers!
Monday, October 30, 2006 (2444 reads)

"This one thing that I cannot forgive is hypocrisy and pretending. If you are sincere and honest I will be a friend to you.  Even if you kill a person, tell me that you have killed a person, I will understand.  I am a human being.  One thing I will never forgive is for you to take me as a fool.  You do something that is wrong and when you are asked about it, you pretend that you have not done anything wrong, when the truth surfaces you are going home.  In fact from now, I will not be as tolerant as before.  You are not working for me, you are working for the country and for yourself and your children because you are being paid for it.  And also, don’t wait until Yahya Jammeh is around and you pretend to work.  This campaign has revealed a lot of things but what is important is let us be sincere."Said President as cabinet ministers were being sworn in at the state house this past friday. Belwo is the full text of Jammeh's statement. Please read on...

Africa Over A Barrel

By Abdoulaye Wade
Saturday, October 28, 2006; A15

DAKAR, Senegal -- Although gasoline prices have dropped recently in the United States, many Americans continue to worry about the toll of oil dependence at the gas pump and on the U.S. economy. As an African, I feel their pain -- and then some. While the price of a barrel of crude has recently dipped below $60, oil still costs twice as much as it did three years ago -- and experts fully expect the price to climb higher.President Bush, a one-time oilman, has warned Americans about the danger of a country's being "addicted to oil." Yet the toll of oil dependence in the United States pales beside the pain that soaring oil prices cause in Africa. In sub-Saharan Africa, in particular, the oil crisis is not a vexing "cost crunch"; it is an unfolding catastrophe that could set back efforts to reduce poverty and promote economic development for years.

Lawyer Darboe Reacts to the High Court Ruling
Friday 27th October 2006

By Abba Gibba

In what could be seen as the UDP leader’s reaction to the recent dismissal by the High Court of a case he filed against the conduct of the 22nd September elections, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe yesterday convened a press conference to give his views on the issue. Below is an unedited version of Mr Darboe’s comments:The court knows that I do not have a counsel, so service should be on me. I received it and signed it but there was no personal service. Now the court never dealt with these applications. If it was dealing with this interlocutor’s application then we could say that a single judge of the Supreme Court was sitting to hear the matter. According to the ruling instead there was an application to have the matter struck out for lack of diligent prosecution and that was the application. The court was not in my view properly prosecuted because there was no previous application before it, which could warrant a single judge to sit on it. While GRTS and others are boasting about showing or trying to show that there was no diligent prosecution on my part, probably, what everything shows is that there was no diligent exercise of judicial discretion on the part of the presiding judge. One, he could not sit or be striking out a case and want a diligent prosecution when the case is not ready for hearing.
