Breaking News:SoS Gaye Reacts To VP Corruption Scandal! Editors Stand by Story...
Wednesday, November 29, 2006 (2689 reads)

It was 5.28 US time, when the Freedom Newspaper phone rang. A Voice Of America Radio Producer and seasoned Broadcaster James Butty enquired if the said line was the Freedom Newspaper, the paper's Publisher Pa Nderry M'Bai replied in the affirmative. Mr.Butty, then said he was calling to verify a corruption story ran by the Freedom Newspaper, regarding the country's Vice President Isatou Njie Saidy, which attracted a reaction from Banjul. James Butty told us that Gambia's Information Minister Neneh Macdowl Gaye reacted to the story, which linked the VP to renovation scandal, kickbacks receiving among others. Our position was very clear. We told the VOA Producer and Liberian born journalist that we stood by the said piece and nothing can make us believe Neneh Macdowl's cover up moves to defend the embattled Vice President. We agreed  in principles to give our side of the story, if the VOA deems it necessary to rebuff Neneh's lies and deception campaign to bury the truth. Mr.Butty who was swamped with other editorial matters promises to get back to us for an interview to throw more light on the VP"S corruption controversy, which is seemingly causing unrest at the State House at this hour.

HON DAWDA JAWARA VS BOY YAHYA JAMMEH

By TownCrier

Hello fellow Gambians,

It is true that Hon. Jawara had many corrupt ministers under him and he never did much to stop them from looting our coffers. In that regard, he was as guilty as they were since he did not take the necessary steps to check them. However if we compare boy Yahya to Hon Jawara, we can easily see the difference. In this scenario Yahya himself is corrupt and his servants are following suit. He wants to create a kingdom where the practice will be "do as I say and not as I do". Or to put it in another way, "Monkey works, Baboon chop". No Jack we are going to steal as much as you do. You can fire us and lock us up but your time is going to come when we will do the same to you. I have created a list comparing the two of them. Read on and make your judgment who is better among the two. I am in no way encouraging a Jawara come back. I want us to see where we were and where we are today under these two men.

Voice of Russia's web site ignores poisoning death of Putin's critic

FreeMediaOnline.org Logo and Link to Home Page FreeMediaOnline.org Free Media Online, Dublin, CA, November 28, 2006 -- The Voice of Russia's (VOR) English web site has ignored the poisoning death in London of Alexander Litvinenko, a former KGB agent who became a strong critic of President Putin. The state-funded radio station, a successor to Radio Moscow which had broadcast internationally during the Cold War, has been silent in recent years about a number of controversial news developments that proved to be highly embarrassing for President Putin.

While international media are full of stories about Mr. Litvinenko's poisoning, the Voice of Russia's English web site has been focusing instead on political scandals in the United States and Great Britain. The web site has not been posting articles about current political issues in Russia that might include critical comments about President Putin's policies.
Asked at the Russia-EU summit meeting in Helsinki last week about Mr. Litvinenko's poisoning and the recent murder in Moscow of an independent Russian investigative journalist Anna Politkovskaya, Mr. Putin said that it would be unfortunate to endlessly politicize these issues or stigmatize only Russia for these kinds of murders. "The same thing happens in many other countries," Mr. Putin said. [Link]

The Gambia and the state of dwindling development crisis:-How social justice becomes another political illusion?

By: - Abdoukarim Sanneh, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom

The Human Development Index of United Nation Development Programme 2006 has indicated that Gambia and many countries in Sub-Saharan Africa are the worst place to live on this planet. What another disheartening report of hopelessness, despair, hunger, poverty and development crisis. For many people who are clouded with what is happening in the Gambia, this report is not a surprise. UNDP measures the global trend of development using indicators such as life expectancy, access to health and sanitation, literacy, safe drinking water, access to food and nutrition, environment, democracy and human rights. It is a fact that human development cannot prevail in an environment where there is continuing attacks on individual liberty and democracy and this are the realities prevailing in the Gambia.

Already, the Gambian police have arrested and detained Baboucarr Jobarteh, the VP'S Chief Protocol officer in connection with the said high profile graft ever hit the country's Presidency.
