Editorial:Is Jammeh Creating Conditions For National Uprising? Is Jammeh Creating Conditions For National Uprising?
50,000 Casamance Guest Voters In Town!
APRC Youths Planning To Provoke Darboe's Convoy Due In Banjul Tuesday....
EDITORIAL
The
Gambian voter population have good reasons to protest against the open
day light vote rigging perpetrated by the ruling APRC. Our elections
had been stolen by Jammeh with the secret smuggling of over 50,000
Casamance cross border voters. Jammeh's third term bid has been
rendered fraudulent in view of these electoral malpractices going on in
the country. The Independent Electoral Commission which is expected to
bare such guest voters is on the other hand conspiring with the
government of the day to issue voters cards to the new batch of
Casamance voters at this hour. Gambia's ailing peace is no doubt
threatened by the ongoing moves by the Jammeh dictatorship to steal the
elections. No one at this hour can predict what will happen in days to
come. Oppressed Gambians have the right to resort to peaceful march since
the regime is hell bent on clinging onto power come what may. Our
people this time around will not condone any vote rigging from Jammeh's
end. Enough is enough. It is time we reclaim our country from these
bunch of vampires and blood thirsty despots. Our men and women should
be ready to resist APRC politics of terror and vote rigging.

President
Jammeh is at this hour living in fear and uncertainty. Little did he
know that by inviting his Casamance brothers and sisters will further
undermined the already discredited electoral system. The whole world is
watching Jammeh and his hand picked IEC. The country's future is in their
hands. A leader committed to peace and stability will not attempt to
subvert or hijack the electoral process. Jammeh stands to be accused of
treason, as his action of registering non Gambians to keep him in power
tantamount to stealing the verdict of his opponents. The Gambia is on
the verge of reaching a total turmoil. Democracy is yet under attack in
our country. The civilized world should come in and save our country
from a full blown political turmoil. Throughout the country, people are
increasingly angry with the system. Their much anticipated regime
change is being openly undermined through fraudulent electoral process
spearheaded by the ruling party.
Our today lead story on the
high presence of Casamance guest voters is very revealing to say the
least. If the said figure is to go by, then Jammeh is assured of
victory. Besides the guest voters, their are dead voters on the IEC
main register ready to be counted as legitimate voters. What is the
point of organizing elections when the regime is openly rigging the
polls? Election monitors should not be deceived by the so called
campaign violence free propaganda spearheaded by the APRC. The amount
of vote rigging activities going on at the moment is a recipe for
violence in the first place. The government of the day should avoid
committing acts that will lead to any forms of violence. It should
prevail on its supporters to nurture the peace and stop hijacking the
electoral process.
As we piece this editorial together,
reports have it that President Jammeh's supporters are planning to
provoke the NRP/UDP campaign convoy due to arrive in Banjul Tuesday
evening. That these APRC youths were heard saying that Darboe's convoy
should be stopped when it reached at West Filed. That they cannot stand
the welcome the UDP leader was posed to receive Tuesday evening. Jammeh
had his welcome ceremony few days ago without any problem, we see no
reason why Darboe should not be accorded the same welcome. Jammeh
should refrain from using his thugs to create political upheaval in the
country. Violence is not in the interest of any of the political
parties running for the Presidency. Let nurture the peace in the
interest of our dear country.
President Jammeh should bear in
mind that Gambians don't want him these days. The amount of people
following the opposition is said to be giving him sleepless nights.
Perhaps, this was why he decided to bring the new batch of Casamance
voters as a back up in the invent of an opposition victory. Admitted or
not Jammeh has succeeded in paving a victory for himself in view of his
latest vote rigging activities. Any of the opposition leaders vying for
the Presidency have good reasons to reject the elections results and
declare themselves as the winner. If such a situation arises, then
Jammeh will know the price of being dishonest. People will demonstrate
for days and months demanding for his steeping down from power. Let his
military come in, but people have the right to organize peaceful
action. If other countries can do it, why not the Gambian people? The
time has come to engage the dictatorship. The greatest mistake the
military and Jammeh's junglers can commit is to take the lives of
their own country men and women because of Jammeh's own selfish
interest. Our men in uniform should bear in mind that governments come
and go but the country remains. You should be loyal to the country and
not President Jammeh. Gambian tax payers are paying you and not the
state. Refuse to execute unlawful orders from killer Jammeh. We
applaud lawyer Ousainou Darboe for his recent call for the country's
security forces to desist from participating in active politics.
Darboe's call was timely and very appropriate at this hour. To avert
the replica of the April 10 students killing, it is important that we
reaffirmed Darboe's call at this hour. The civilian population are not
the enemies of the state. Gambia's biggest enemy today is Yahya Jammeh.
We should put all hands on deck to vote out this monster. Let us be
each others brother's keeper at this hour. Let say no to Jammeh's terror
politics and vote rigging.
