UDP Leader To Hold A Mass Rally In Sedaclub Tonight....

            By Our Roving Reporter

Incumbent President Yahya Jammeh is making last minutes rush to hold an unscheduled meeting in Serre-kunda near the primary school signaling that  his supporters might likely clash with the UDP convoy which left Brikama this afternoon for Serre-kunda, where flag bearer lawyer Ousaniou Numukunda Darboe and his jubilant party supporters and officials were scheduled to hold a mass rally at Sedaclub. Well placed sources hinted that Jammeh's unscheduled Serre-Kunda meeting might lead to possible violence as his cheering supporters had earned themselves with the reputation of being trouble makers during last days before polling. It was exactly around this time around in 1996 when a UDP convoy were intercepted at the Denton Bridge by armed guards led by Agriculture Minister Yankuba Touray and Baba Jobe, where they mercilessly tortured opposition supporters and their officials. The barbaric and the inhumane treatment of the opposition supporters led to the death of former UDP drummer Kaibutay Jahfuna and Sedia Sanyang a former executive member of the UDP. Again, in the last days of the 2002 Presidential elections campaign, a team of state guard soldiers led by SGT.Kawsu Camara now lieutenant disrupted the UDP Talinding meeting, where they shot and killed an opposition supporter. An early morning source told the Freedom Newspaper that the Gambian leader is posed to provoke another electoral violence with his scheduled Serre-Kunda meeting.

Is Jammeh looking for trouble again???

The Independent Electoral Commission which is in charge of election matters have not issued any statement regarding Jammeh's unscheduled Serre-Kunda meeting. An official of the IEC told this reporter that the APRC were in the habit of violating the campaign code of conduct with their unscheduled meetings. The IEC official says their offices never received any formal request from the APRC in relation to their  Serre-Kunda meeting and their presence in the locality at this hour  was a total breach of the election code of conduct. It is not clear what President Jammeh was up to at this hour with his last minute unscheduled meetings.

The Freedom Newspaper gathered that the UDP led alliance were doing everything in their means to avert a possible crisis this evening, as they tried to avoid having a clash with APRC supporters. If all plans went through, said a source close to the UDP/NRP/GPDP convoy, their party leader was due to arrive in Serre-Kunda in two hours time. The UDP leader is expected to address thousands of jubilant supporters at Sedaclub. Throughout, the campaign period Darboe supporters have been chanting slogans of regime change in the West African country. Our reporter covering the UDP tour says opposition leader Ousainou Darboe has never been followed by such a  type of crowd since coming into politics. He says if  the Brikama meeting was anything to go by, then Jammeh was bound to  face a tougher challenge come election day. Our reporter says Jammeh did not pulled half of the crowd that escorted lawyer Darboe as people walked from Brikama to Serre-kunda escorting the UDP convoy. Political commentators say Jammeh is likely to receive a rude shock in the coming elections as there was growing demand for regime change in the former British colony.

Elections campaign will ceased on Thursday, which would be declared a cooling period by the IEC. The verdict of the Gambian people will then follow as voting was scheduled for Friday. The head of the Commonwealth observer team Dr.Salim was said to be on a filed tour assessing the political climate.
