Ex Bakau MP Dembo Byforce Accuses the Soldiers Led By Lang Tombong Tamba And The IEC Of Rigging The Polls In Bakau... By A Staff Writer
Former
Bakau MP Dembo Bojang alias Dembbyforce has accused the Independent
Electoral Commission of voter fraud by allowing over 2000 soldiers from
various barracks in the country to vote in Bakau even though they were
not legally registered in that opposition stronghold constituency.
Speaking to the Freedom Newspaper, Mr.Bojang says the soldiers mainly
from Farafenni, Kudang, Basse, Yundum, Bakau and other barracks forced
their way into the ten polling stations in Bakau to cast their votes.
Bojang who appeared very upset with this state of affairs told our
reporter that the soldiers were led by army chief of staff Lang
Tombong Tamba. According to the former popular MP the Bakau polls had
been rigged in advance in view of the voter fraud perpetrated by the
unregistered soldiers in his locality.
 Mr.Bojang
insists that the elections in Bakau had been rendered fraudulent and no
one can convince him that the polls were free and fair. "I'm having a
big problem in my constituency. Soldiers from Yundum, Farafenni, Basse,
Kudang, Bakua and other barracks this morning forcefully entered
polling stations in Bakau to vote. We protested to the IEC that these
soldiers were never registered in Bakau, but they were allowed to vote. The
army chief of staff Lang Tombong Tamba led the soldiers. Their aim is
to hijack the electoral process and as such the elections are not free
and fair."said Dembobyforce.
According to Dembo Bojang, Commonwealth observers
were living witnesses to the soldiers daylight forced voting in Bakau
and all their actions were documented. Bojang said initial plans taken by
his committee to boycott the polls in Bakau was reversed since the
elections observers were informed about the voter malpractices taking
place in Bakau. The politician accused the soldiers of harboring anger
against him since his recent BBC interview in which he complained about
two army trucks surrounding his house. When asked whether his life was
safe as a politician, Bojang indicated that he was far from being safe.
Notwithstanding, Bojang told the Freedom Newspaper that he was closely
monitoring developments and was with the belief that the army were in
Bakau to rig the polls. He accuses the IEC of being biased by failing
to take the necessary actions to stop the soldiers from voting. Bakau
has been an opposition stronghold which never hide their opposition against President Jammeh's ruling APRC party. Over the years, the opposition
UDP defeated President Jammeh in Bakau. The soldier's forced voting
would likely have an adverse effect on the outcome of this year's
polling.
