Breaking News:Murdered Gambian Intellegence Chief family want two lawyers to write to the state! The
family of the late Gambia's intelligence chief Daba Marena were said to
have instructed two Gambian lawyers to write to the Gambian government
to enquire about the whereabouts of their loved one who is currently
feared dead alongside with four other security detainees, the Freedom
Newspaper has gathered. Lawyer Borry Touray and Lamin Camara are said
to be handling the said assignment to write to the state, said a family
member. Daba's family according to sources want the government to
confirm to them if the former intelligence chief was alive or dead. A
family member told our reporter that in the event that the state
refuses to heed to the said proposed letter, they will raise funds to
fight the case in the Gambian courts.
The Late Daba Marena with the Kaftan
Our source said the Marena family
both in the US, UK and other Western countries are currently busy
trying to see how best they can raise funds to engage the services of
the two named lawyers to pursue Daba's case for them. The source said
that the Jammeh regime should explain to them if these people were truly
killed as reported by the press. The source appealed to the
international community to join them in their efforts to mount pressure
on the Jammeh regime to produce the bodies of the detainees.
Daba
Marena was accused of plotting to overthrow the APRC government
together with some military chiefs. He was last seen shortly after his
return from a trip to Mauritania with the President. He was arrested
and later taken to prison. His family claimed that Daba was all the
time loyal to the President and his government. They were taken aback
following reports linking him with coup plot.
A former police
detective and also special branch operative Daba was alleged to have
been summarily executed by trigger happy soldiers acting on the
command of the President. Shortly, after their demise, the state
rushed with a statement on state radio announcing that the truck
carrying the security detainees was involved in an accident and as a
result of the crash Daba and others escaped. Since the alleged escaping
of the detainees no word was heard from them. Many Gambians doubted the
government statement. They believe that it was calculated to deceive
the bereaved families.
