Our lead story on Mami Minteh Touray was greeted with mixed reaction. This editor received numerous phone calls from people who claimed to have been offended by the piece and demanded to know the source of the said piece. We politely told the callers that as journalists, we do not reveal our sources and would do whatever it takes to protect such loyal and dependable sources. The said piece was published in good faith without malice or ill will. None of the people so far named as the Freedom Newspaper sources in Raleigh were not the actual sources anyway. Mami Minteh Touray has called some people in Raleigh calling them names. She accused them of being an informant to our editor. There is a big confusion among the Gambian community in Raleigh and back home in the Gambia. The source of the said damning piece is the billion dollar question to figure out. Let Mami and her group keep second guessing, but the Freedom Newspaper crew  cannot help them with answers. We are not in the business of sacrificing our sources and therefore no amount of threat can make us bow down. The ongoing black mail to link certain decent Gambians and non Gambians in Raleigh to the said story is an act of hypocrisy and smear campaign. The said people have no link to the piece and we are ready to take full responsibility of our actions. The offended parties are free to seek legal redress, as we committed no crime whatsoever. We merely performed what is expected of us as  independent journalists.

Controvery in Raleigh, As
She Calls From Banjul
Accusing Certain Individuals
As Freedom Informants!

Mami should do her home work right before jumping into conclusion that the said people were our sources. Interestingly, she never disputed the veracity of the story. She was more concerned about the source, which is creating a big shake up among the Gambian community here. This paper has been very magnanimous by allowing unsolicited phone calls from parties who had no ties or bearing with the story. We have been very nice with them by listening to their complaints and concerns. We must say that these are people we hold with high esteem. We respect them to the maximum. We are not aware of any beef between us and them. We are concerned about their overreaction. We hope they understand where we  are coming from. We harbored no grudges against them.

From now on, we will not entertain questions regarding the source of the story. Let them do whatever they feel like doing. America is a nation of law and whoever thinks that he or she is offended can resort to the courts. We are ready to put up a strong defense against any future litigation. We shall not be intimidated by threats of litigation.

The Freedom Newspaper was not set up to slander, defame or libel people. We believe in reporting the truth and nothing but the truth. After all, what is deal by reporting the private life of a government Minister's wife? Little did the complaining parties know that Ministers and their families have no private life. As long as they are being paid and fed by our tax payers they are not free from public scrutiny. And that's exactly what we are doing here at Freedom.

We do not know where Mami is getting her stories regarding our sources. She got it all wrong. Our sources are unreachable. It would take her years to know these sources. We have no problem with  people trying to take credit or blame for the story. We never name names in the said piece and whoever wants to claim to be our source that's your own problem. The Freedom Newspaper will never disown or reveal its sources. We have faced challenges tougher than that of the Mami saga and we overcome those challenges. God is by our side and the ongoing bad mouthing calculated to bring us down will not move us. We are blessed  and shall continue to seek for God's protection from forces of evil.

We have no problem with those who called us the other day. We cannot understand why people would take it upon themselves to take the fight of another person. The said piece concerns Mami Minteh and no one else. If Mami thinks that what we reported was false, let her give us the true side of the story. This paper don't report false stories. Our stories are credible and undisputable. Even it will take us days to authenticate stories we will do it. The integrity and credibility of the Freedom Newspaper is of great concern to us. We are not in the media business for fame or slander campaign. We shall not hesitate to call it a day with individuals bent on trying use this paper for smear campaign. This is not the type of media outlet which encourages people to settle old scores. We believe in responsible journalism. Our actions and personal comportment as journalists matters a lot  and we are aware of the challenging and demanding responsibilities tasked to us. We shall exceed the expectations of our dear readers at all times.

As a matter of fact, we never intended to write about Mami any further but since she had taken it upon her self to point accusing fingers against certain individuals as the source of our story, we though it crucially imperative to set the records straight. The people so far named are not our sources. These are innocent individuals who have no ties with the Freedom Newspaper. Mami's wild accusations against the said individuals remind us about the police arrest warrant issued against the Freedom Newspaper subscribers in The Gambia. Mami is repeating the actions of Jammeh's government. She is calling everywhere trying to trace our source. Lady, please relax and take it easy. Let move on and stop the name calling. We don't see anything extraordinary in you that should warrant us to waste our pages by writing anything fictitious. This paper's mission statement tells it all. We refer you to go through that master piece statement to help your self.

Gambians should stop the backstabbing and be real people. Many smiles for you when they hate you deep into their heart. Some are using the Mami saga to smear our image. Our image is intact and our detractors will woefully fail in their bid to smear us. We have a mission and shall accomplish this mission God willing. We rest our case.
