Seattle Gambian Donates $45 Dollars To the Freedom Newspaper Management! Seattle Gambian Donates $45 Dollars To the Freedom Newspaper Management- Editors Praised Ebrima Dibba for the kind gesture
Ebrima Dibba, a Gambian residing in the Seattle Washington here in the United States has donated $45 dollars to the Freedom Newspaper Management as a sign of gesture to what he calls the paper's quality and informative news it provides to Gambians and the world at large. Dibba a former Information and Propaganda Secretary of the Gambia Student Union said his $45 dollars contribution to support the Freedom Newspaper was just the beginning as he plans to further help the leading US based Gambian paper. "I'm a Gambian who believes in press freedom and democracy. Media freedom and democracy needs support. The Freedom Newspaper is promoting democracy and they need our support. This is the paper that is providing you up-to-date, reliable and informative Gambian news. As a Gambian, I appreciate your tireless efforts to keep us posted about happenings back home. Each time I read the Freedom Newspaper, I feel like being at home. This is the paper that makes my day. I visit the Freedom Newspaper on numerous times daily. It's my favorite paper. I like the Freedom Newspaper."said Mr.Dibba in a statement announcing his financial help to the Raleigh based Freedom Newspaper.
Mr.Dibba a strong supporter of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) says his action was triggered by the Freedom Newspaper's independence."The Freedom Newspaper is very independent. It gives fair, balanced, accurate and unbiased news coverage to Gambians. The mere fact that the paper is allowing voices of dissent to disagree with some of your reportage goes to show that you are true democrats. I have seen on numerous occasions the Freedom Newspaper publishing views critical of the paper. You never condemn the said critics, which is a sign of tolerance and perseverance on the side of your editors. This is what true journalists do. We applaud you for the fine job and keep up the good work."said Dibba.
Mr. Dibba cautions people not to misinterpret his financial gesture to the Freedom Newspaper."I'm not doing this to show out myself. I have the strong belief that a promising Newspaper like the Freedom Newspaper needs support and encouragement. I'm committed to supporting the Freedom Newspaper. The Freedom Newspaper saved me a lot from buying phone cards to call the Gambia to double check some of the stories I heard about my country. Freedom is round the clock updating its site. The truth be told, Freedom is meeting the expectations of its readers. You are serving the common good and keep it up." Mr.Dibba added.
Dibba appealed to Gambians and non Gambians alike committed to press freedom to support the Freedom Newspaper."The reporters and editors of the Freedom Newspaper are very strong people. These are true patriots who are committed to democracy and media freedom. These are honest, dedicated and patriotic Gambians interested into the welfare of our beloved country. Despite being arrested harassed, tortured, and threatened with death threats, the Freedom Newspaper staffers are committed to their cause. They put the Gambia ahead of anything. They have families and loved ones but are never intimidated at any given time. You have put your lives on the line to make the Gambia a free and just country. These are the true sons and daughters of our country who need support. They are genuine people with a vision. They could have equally played a low profile but they want a better Gambia tomorrow. The quality of information provided by Freedom is superb. I say keep up the struggle. Don't be distracted by people whose sentiments are triggered by jealousy and hatred. We are here to support you come what may."Mr.Dibba said.
For Mr.Dibba, the Freedom Newspaper is not only promoting Gambia's image but it's also trying to nurture democratic culture in our country. "Gambians should be proud of the Freedom Newspaper. This is the paper bringing our country to the world map. I'm proud of Freedom. My support is here for Freedom. We thank you million times for the good work. You are courageous Gambians committed to what you are doing. Anyone who fails to acknowledge your efforts must be an agent against democracy and development. You are true sons of this country who worth their salt as journalists. We say bravo and keep it up." Dibba concluded.
Responding to Mr.Dibba's gesture, Freedom Newspaper Managing Editor cum publisher Pa Nderry M'Bai said he was highly touched by Dibba's praises and kind remarks for their paper. "On behalf of the Freedom Newspaper staffers, I want to thank Mr.Dibba for the kind gesture. We appreciate the gesture and be rest assured that the money would served its purpose. The Freedom Newspaper valued your commitment to media freedom and democracy. We need your type to sustain this leading Gambian paper. As a non profit media organization, we are not only obligated to meeting the needs of our esteem readers, but also local support staff especially those on the ground in the Gambia getting you good stuff every morning. These are people who put their lives on the line to get you the stories you read online."said Editor M'Bai.
Mr.M'Bai assured Mr.Dibba that the Freedom Newspaper shall never deviate from its editorial policy." This paper was not created to target certain people. We have a vision and our vision is to make our country a place where people's rights and liberties are respected. The Freedom Newspaper has zero tolerance for corruption and right abuses. We don't mind to be condemned, call names for exposing graft and right abuses. Our paper don't entertain outside dictation on editorial related issues. We believe in operating freely without any interference."said Mr.M'Bai.
