Breaking News:Sacked SG Mamburay Njie Arrested-Mile Two Inmates Received A Big Guest!
.jpg) Barely less than 24 hours, when we reported about the missing Taiwanese Elections Funds, which landed the sacked Secretary General Mamburay Njie into troubles, sources at the heart of the Jammeh administration today confirmed the arrest and detention of the disgraced former SG Mr.Njie who was arrested this morning by the officials of the feared National Intelligence Agency, the (NIA) is currently serving as a Guest at the country's maximum Prisons, the Mile Two Central Prisons, well placed sources at the heart of the Jammeh government told the Freedom Newspaper.
Mamburay who was in Taiwan shortly before the country's September Presidential Elections was alleged to have diverted some of the election funds extended to the Ruling APRC. The former Head of the Civil Service ran unlucky with his alleged money swindling schemes when authorities in Taipei briefed the President about the exact amount of money that was given to the country, sources claimed.
Mr.Njie who was chilling at his Brusibi home, while awaiting his fate on the said corruption scandal which was earlier handled by the state law office in Banjul was greeted with rude shock when uncompromising men of the NIA bundled him up and threw him into a waiting vehicle. He was taken straight to the Mile Two by his captives. This paper was informed by well placed sources that the state was determined to drag Mamburay to court in view of the crime he allegedly committed.
Taiwan has been funding Gambia's Elections over the years. Mamburay's recent move to allegedly divert some parts of the funds into his coffers was said to have angered the President. He was fired for unexplained reasons. But thanks to our loyal sources at the State House, facts regarding his actual cause of removal are emerging at this hour. It's gathered that the revelations made by the said sources must have prompted the arrest of sacked SG.
Mamburay Njie, a onetime Gambian Ambassador to Taiwan is likely to be charged with economic crimes, said sources close to the State law office. His arrest was said to have created some panics in the Civil Service. Mr.Njie was said to have been accompanied to Taiwan at the time of the said corruption scandal by some Civil Servants some of whom according to sources were afraid to be implicated by the detained SG if things went worse. The Freedom Newspaper has the list of officials who were part of the delegation to Taiwan.
Meantime, the country's newly appointed Attorney General and Secretary of State for Justice Kebba Sanyang is reported to have been reviewing Mamburay's case file, which according to sources would soon reach the courts. Mr.Njie was the main man behind NAWEC'S privatization.
Prior to his arrest, this paper received a phone call from a concerned Gambian who claimed that Mamburay and one Njogu Bah not the former (Gambian Ambassador to France) but the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the President's office allegedly duped some foreign investors who were interested in investing real estate projects in the Gambia. According to the caller, Mamburay introduced the investors to Njogu Bah who allegedly collected $100,000 dollars from the investors. Njogu who used to be the APRC mobiliser in Atlanta Georgia was also alleged to have received $200,000 dollars from the investors on behalf of the government. The caller said the investors later left the Gambia with heavy heart as their projects never kicks off the ground. The said foreign investors were said to be running real estate projects in Senegal.
Up to the time of going to press, Mamburay Njie was held at the Mile Two Prisons. There was no immediate word about when he would be released and why he was detained. But sources close to the Presidency say his arrest had to do with the Taiwanese missing Elections funds.
