Jammeh Sworn in today:Is This The End Of Jammeh? Gambia's President Yahya Jammeh is being sworn in today for another term in office. The country's Chief Justice his lordship Justice AK Savage is going to administer the oath office on Jammeh Jilangka. President Jammeh is today poising as the happiest man on this universe, but at the same time concerned about the country's ailing peace. The country is far from being stable. Since the advent of his government, coups and counter coups continued to be the order of the day. Many soldiers have died in the process, while a good number of them are today serving their jailing terms at the Mile Two prisons. Despite past arrests, killings and torture of their colleagues, some ruminants of the army are unhappy with the current state of affairs. In March of this year, the government claimed to have uncovered a coup plot against the administration of President Yahya Jammeh. Five of its alleged ring leaders including Gambia's former intelligence chief Daba Marena were murdered in cold blood by the state. Soldiers who refused to take part in Jammeh's secret killings are usually classified as sympathizers of the opposition.
As heads of state gathered in Banjul to witness Jammeh's inauguration, we as Gambians should be concerned about what the future holds for us. Under President Jammeh's watch, we are not assured of security, human rights, respect for the rule of law`economic and political stability. Our country is below the ladder in terms of governance and tackling official graft. It's unfortunate that our country is being isolated by civilized countries. President Jammeh is to be blamed for such an isolation since he is not willing to adhere to international democratic standards.
While Jammeh is being sworn in, the average Gambian is starving to death. Prostitution, begging, stealing and adultery continues to be the order of the day. Our country's men and women are hopeless at this hour. No one seems to know when the current economic and political crisis we found ourselves is going to end. In today's Gambia, one have to be a real sycophant to enjoy the national cake. People are being discriminated against day in day out because of their political affiliation.
Having said this, it's imperative to point out that the road to our nation's freedom is not going to be easy as anticipated by some naive minds. We as a nation, must be ready to over come the challenges and be prepared to fight the dictatorship until Freedom comes on our door steps. Jammeh being sworn in today, should not affect our struggle to change this despotic administration. For us to realize our dream for political change, we must be ready to face the challenges at any given time no matter what. As we piece this write up together, we urge the Gambian opposition, human rights lawyers and peace loving citizens to refuse to be enslaved by President Jammeh and his sinking government. We should speak with one voice and say no to totalitarian rule. Lets us be each others brothers keeper during these hard days of our our nation's political history. Down with President Jammeh and his repressive government.
