Latest revelations have further authenticated that President Jammeh's security lies within the hands of few loyalists in Kanilai. They are few but control all the so-called sophisticated arms in town. However, this trend is changing. There are soldiers who have already established good contacts out of the country according to those I spoke to near the Fajara Gold Course three days ago. I was amazed to hear that Sanna Sabally still has people loyal to him? Some of these people are infact considered to be in the very good books of Jammeh himself. Some of them still believe that Sanna helped President Jammeh finish the job on July 22nd 1994. They still respect Sanna over Jammeh. This I think is surprising to me and many others but I did of course speak to people who believe in Sanna as a fearless leader. This may not be a good trend as far as the stability of the country is concerned but is a hard fact. We must be ready to live with such facts and solve them methodically. I am really not a fan of military might,however,I did not expose my personal feelings to these boys because they are so loyal to the guy.
There are those who believe in Edward Singhatey so much. They see the guy as a fully trained Gambian-British Rambo. There are some elements in the army who giggle when people call Edward a Jammeh-loyalist. They always retort and say..."Edu is more matured than Oga,we know that". This of course is scary. The only problem stopping the Sanna loyalists from starting to brew something is that, Edu and Sanna are still considered arch rivals. This is how Edward has been surviving near President Jammeh. He uses the disloyalty of others to get closer to President Jammeh when ever he complaints about someone or a group of people. Edward knows the weaknesses of Presiddent Jammeh. He capitalizes on them where and when the chances arise.
This is the only reason why Sanna's boys are lying low. If anyone believes that The Gambia army is one unit under one command he or she is making a grave mistake. President Jammeh is being called the commander in chief but he is not it in practical terms. He is there because he hoarded all the most dangerous arms in Kanilai. Some of which him and his immediate circle can operate,others they can't. These very fractures made Jammeh send Lt Jarjue to Ukraine to be trained as pilot. Everyone in The Gambia today knows that Peter Singhatey Edward's brother is the only trained pilot within the ranks.
He was the one flying the plane in 2001 when President Wade came to attend our national day as a special guest. This was the last time Wade came in as a respected special guest,it was also the last time President Jammeh showed his war plane to another leader.
