Freedom Newspaper Mail Bag-What Our Readers Say Today!
By Yankuba Banda.

Dear Mr. Mbai,
I've been a regular reader of your newspaper for quite some time now and I've admired your desire to exercise your freedom of speech and contribute your quota for the development of our motherland. I also admire your sense of sacrifice and drive for this noble profession of journalism.

I am a great follower of the current events in The Gambia and the world in general. I can't wait to finish college and offer my services to The Gambia and the people of my community in any form that they want me.

The articles I read on your website can be very interesting sometimes but I will be deceiving myself if I don't express my concern to some of your pinions- which I respect even though I may not agree with them all. Sometimes I feel that your opinions show a total and unconditional support to any opposition to President jammeh. I think our democracy in the Gambia is young and very weak, that isn't an excuse for tyranny but I believe inorder to keep our democracy growing, we need to focus more on building the institutions of democracy, and I believe THE PEOPLE to be the basic institution of our democracy.Let's encourage DEBATE- debate on the basic functions of the branches of the government and the basic political philosophies of every individual political parties and their plans on implementing projects that the people of The Gambia need. The fact that The Gambian people of the Gambia vote irrespective of a party's manifesto is a failure of myself, the government, political parties, the politicians, the media and everyone else who is capable of making a difference but choses not to. I admire journalists but some of the articles printed on your website only makes your and your staff a target of the government's intolerant attitude. You are making a difference that we all appreciate but I think the greater difference will be achieved when we try and  inform and educate the people of the policies , achievements and failures of the government and the  politicians, offer alternatives to their failures and encourage the people to join in the debate and voice their suggestions to their representatives. I believe this will make a greater difference FOR THE GAMBIA.

...but that is my opinion, what's yours?

Sincerely Yours,
Yankuba Banda.

Hello again brother Mbai, Congratulations on the "new and improved" picture. I can see that despite your refusal to publish my article you're trying to improve somewhat. Kudos to you and your team for TRYING to use a more "professional" picture on your article. Like i suggested, it doesn't contain the "extras" and is a simple head shot, passport style. However, the olofs say "fass lum dow dow nga yoka koh yarr", so i say, it's still not enough bro, keep improving. The striped T-shirt maybe worn to the office on "casual Friday" but it's not professional. A buttoned shirt, suit or even an "African" frock would be more appropriate and earn more respect for you as a journalist. I, like many Gambians, would like to see an equal or more effort put into the quality of the articles and overall journalistic standards. I also hope you can take my example and commend some of the people you criticize when they make an effort or do something positive. It shows objectivity and achieves positive results for all. No hard feelings. Louis Friend

I would like to ask Ndarry and his people what exactly is there role in developing the Gambia and it's people. If Gambia heads up to whatever crises you want it to be, is it not your own family and friend that are going to suffer. You could be in America writing things that you think are helping Gambians. No, I think you got it all wrong. You guys are working in America and some of you are full time workers. I would like to know what your contribution is to the deverlopment of the Gambia as a whole. we will be happy if you tell us the following. 1) You set up charities for orphans 2) You make donations to children who wants to continue their education but lack funds. To be con...
