he crack down on the alleged coupists has been extended now to the opposition, as MC Cham a strong supporter of UDP leader Ousainou Darboe was arrested today along aside with Ramzia Diab, a former nominated Member of Parliament. Also those arrested was a relative Madam Diab, who was also whisked away by armed security officers.

Mr. Cham’s arrest sent a shocking waves in opposition circles as they questioned President Jammeh’s motives in arresting Cham. They also wondered what his government was up to at this crucial period of our fragile democracy. The arrestees were being interrogated in connection with Tuesday’s alleged abortive coup, which attracted the arrest of top army officers.
Mr. Cham, a former Minister in the First Republic recently denied joining the Ruling APRC, following wild spread reports that he defected to Jammeh’s government. His arrest is being viewed as politically motivated.
A source close to the UDP confirmed MC Cham’s arrest. While these mass arrest and detention of the military and the civilian community, the detainees are still languishing in jail.
