Aviation workers at the Banjul International Airport have confirmed the presence of Mauritanian commandos in The Gambia, who escorted panic stricken Gambian President Yahya Jammeh to the state villa in Banjul, after reports that the military were posed to topple his regime. Jammeh who cut his visit short to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania was safely escorted to the city by Mauritanian commandos, the Freedom Newspaper was reliably informed by Aviation staffers.

Local Aviation workers say the President was not accorded guard of honour this time around. Well placed source say Jammeh was quickly escorted to the state house as soon as his aircraft touched the airport basement. “ We saw the armed Mauritanian commandos accompanying him. They later returned after escorting him."said a senor aviation worker at the airport.
There is no military bilateral agreement between The Gambian government and the military junta in Mauritania. Their presence in the country raises concerns to some local observers. This paper gathered that Jammeh personally asked his counter part to help him with security that will enable his safe return to The Gambia. The Freedom Newspaper learned that some of Jammeh’s delegation were left behind by the President, who insisted to return home come what may.
Sources say the airport was in complete black out shortly after Jammeh's sudden landing and workers were warned not to move an inch. Investigations revealed that Jammeh was very upset when the aircraft landed and was in a hury mood to reach the state house.
Shortly after his arrival Jammeh, issued a statement vowing to deal with the alleged coupists. He said this time around he will not apply mercy on coup suspects.
The Freedom Newspaper, was also told that the President changed his sleeping schedules since the alleged foiled coup. “He sometimes sleeps in Kanilai or Banjul. He also spent the night in Bakau. He put on uniform these days and had ordered that some of the state guards be transferred.” said our source.
