Our Gambia (100) vs Yahya Jammeh's Gambia (0) - Town Crier is back! By Town Crier
Our planet as we all know has many species that jointly inhabit it. Every species have their own territory and we are all supposed to live side by side without any problems. The laws of nature provide us with this opportunity. And among the most advance of these species is the human race. What makes us stand out is our ability to organize ourselves, use language and form laws to guide our day to day living. Most animal kingdoms are in disarray because there is no one head and there are no set rules and regulations apart from those set for them by nature. In the animal world, anyone of them can act in anyway it deems fit without due regard to the rights of the others. It is a survival of the fittest. A do as you please and get away or be killed. The weak and defenseless are relegated to the back and live at the mercy of the strong ones or in fear of their lives on a daily basis. This is where we humans are superior. But then let's not be mistaken: we human have animal-like tendencies within us that when used can align us tête-à-tête with the animal kingdom. And when this happens, we have what we call social anarchy. When human beings abandon laws that are suppose to govern and guide their behaviours, they are reduced to nothing more than our animal neighbours.
Historians have catalogued some human characters that have used such tendencies and today the legacies are there for everyone who cares to see or read about. Emperor Bokassa. Mobutu Sesseku, Samuel Doe, Charles Taylor, Idi Amin, Manuel Noreiga, Adolf Hilter and the Janjaweed in Sudan etcetera are just a few examples. The actions of these men and/or group are not hidden by those who follow World events most notably our beloved Africa.
Africa has seen brutal men come and go not in the most civilized way. The ending is usually a sad story and the masses suffer the most before the final ending. In today's Gambia we are approaching or should I say we have already approached such a scenario. This used to be a Gambia where many Africans in our sub region termed as their hustling place: a place to achieve their life dreams. The custodians of the law have become the principal violators. They dictate who goes to jail and when they go to jail. They lock up people for months, years without charge. They deny arresting others. They abduct and kidnap at will. It has become a survival of the fittest. It has become a place where husbands, sons, fathers etcetera are separated from their loved ones for no unjustifiable reasons. They are incarcerated for long periods without charge. They are then released as an image booster and Mr. Law Jammeh expects the relatives of such persons to be happy with him. Some of these incarcerated individuals have lost loved ones while in jail and only God knows it might have been due to stress and distress from being separated from those that they have grown to be fond of.
Our today Gambia has been set on a path where it needs to be salvaged. We are threading in a path of isolation and division. But one thing is certain; dictators have never beaten time for none of them has ever been wise enough. They create so many problems that it becomes a near impossibility to leave and live free happy lives. As you make your bed so shall you lie on it. Dig a hole and you might be the first to fall in. Many rough beds have been created and many holes have been dug. Our nation today has a checkered live and we beg for divine intervention before we are led down the ravine. This is not a Gambia that we will be proud to hand over to our next generation. It needs more humane and humble sons and daughters to salvage its image. In today's Gambia you do not know who your keeper is and who your foe is. Town Crier prays for the day Gambia will be what it used to be. So help us God.
Detractor "Manneh"?
PS: May I just mention this in passing as I do not have time for online news scammers like "Mr. Manneh"? who claims to be a brother of the late Almamo Manneh. Pa, we will not allow detractors and an enemy of truth to waste our valuable time and words on refuting lies. Who in his right senses will believe "Mr. Manneh"? After the Daily Observer itself reported Foday Makalo absconding and calling his family from Spain. A story which was never substantiated by his family. Which Gambian leaves his homeland and does not follow news back home and would not even know of articles mentioning his death. A few days ago, he was met in Luanda , and today he is in Ghana (Kumasi). This must be his roving ghost looking for its killers at the AU summit. Facts cannot be changed. Lies do not have extra large size and can therefore not cover truth. "Manneh"? Drink your "ataya" (green tea), fold your "Bantaba" mat and go to sleep. We await your "Foday Makalo" to grant your "future" interview with the Freedomnewspaper. NB: I will never again respond to him as I value my time. Wasalam .
