Jammeh Receives Hassan Musa Camara, Lamin Kitti Jabang

President Yahya Jammeh yesterday received at State House Mr Assan Musa Camara, Chairman of the Opposition National Alliance for Democracy and Development (NADD), and Mr Lamin Kitti Jabang, a former cabinet minister in the ousted regime of the Peoples Progressive Party of Sir Dawda Jawara.

In a brief encounter with journalists after the meeting, Mr Camara declined to reveal the basics of his discussion with the President. “I only paid a courtesy call,” the NADD Chairman said.

When further quizzed about the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between NADD and the APRC, the veteran politician also declined to make any comments.

Few minutes later, Mr Kitti Jabang arrived at the scene of the encounter. He told journalists that he had some discussions with president Jammeh during the courtesy call.

“I discussed with the president issues of mutual interest to the nation,” he said. “My visit at State House is not the first time; I was invited before by the president and whenever the need arises, I come here for matters of national interest.”

According to GRTS these consultations came fast on the heels of a peace deal brokered between the ruling APRC Party and the Opposition parties by the Nigerian leader Olusegun Obasanjo last week.

Lamin Kitti Jabang served under the deposed PPP regime as Minister of External Affairs and Minister of Interior respectively.

Hassan Musa who is currently the NADD chairman also served under the PPP regime as Vice-President and Minister for Local Government and Lands before pulling out to form his Gambia Peoples Party (GPP).
