Michael Scales Describes UDP Leader's Reaction to the Sale of GAMTEL, GAMCEL and others as Too "weak and compromising."
Scales Believes that Darboe is trying to appease the leadership by making such cheap statements!
... As he calls for stronger opposition in The Gambia
"It is woeful of Mr Darboe...to ask politely that future privatisations should be done with the consultation of the people...as if what is done is done...surley there is much more that can be done to repeal..these silent incursions on The gambias, economic future ? If there has been a change in the Constitution to allow this to be done....Where was the consultation and the advice to the people of its consequences ?If it has not been done by the accepted methods in place..as he suggests..What does he propose to do about it ? This Government should be accountable to the people..Where is the outrage !!! Does he speak for the people ?The Freedom Newspaper, has given their verdict on these sales in recent pieces....They are not amused...The Gambia is not amused.....period !!! The slight tap on the wrist to the ARPC from Mr Darboe is Just Not Good Enough !!!The gambian People are waiting for strong leadership and opposition to the relentless march of this... adminsitration."

Dear Mr.Editor,
May i respectfully raise more than just an eybrow , at the private sale of Gamtel and Gamcel. If i were Mr Darboe...I think raising the roof would be much more appropriate. For many years,i trod the corridors of these impressive organistations, which stand, tall as the pillars of Gambian Commercial Integrity.Leaving South Africa,to one side....Gamtel and its newer sister Gamcel...are indeed the finest beacons of there kind in WHOLE of the Africa. There management is World renowned and there workforce ,much respected, hard working and experianced.Further to this ..it is the management and workforce that have maintained this position against ,all competition.
To sell these companies, without proper consultation...is a sin against, its loyal workforce..and i believe ...The Gambia as a whole.I am aware, of Lebanese buisness interests in The Gambia, which have contributed to the private sector handsomely and with respect for many years..But does anyone know the background of these new investors ? where is the consultation with the people ? where is the consultation with the workforce ? Who is Spectrum ,where does there money originate from. How did they achieve it.What is there experiance ? what is there motive ? what are there intentions....are jobs safe ? I cannot believe...that The Gambia would entertain privatisation of these stalwarts of commerce, oppertunity, and employment for its citizens ..without the strongest public debate. In the wrong hands, these companies, not properly run or financed and resourced, could deal a catastrophic blow..to the future of ALL gambians. This is a crying shame !!!
It is woeful of Mr Darboe...to ask politely that future privatisations should be done with the consultation of the people...as if what is done is done...surley there is much more that can be done to repeal..these silent incursions on The gambias, economic future ? The gambian People are waiting for strong leadership and opposition to the relentless march of this... adminsitration.Do Gambians really want this kind of leadership ? When ??? is this ever going to end ? Calamities are comming nearly every day...How can such a small and resilient country, continue to be treated..like this ? God Give me strength !!! ...Pretty soon all that will be left is a few peanuts...
Disgusted.!!!....Michael
