Breaking News:Major Kalipha Bajinka and his wife arrived in the US!! Fugitive Bajinka settling down in Boston! By A Staff Writer
After spending one year in exile in the Senegalese Capital of Dakar, Major Kalipha Bajinka and his wife have finally resettled in the United States, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Bajinka who arrived in the US two weeks ago accompanied by his wife fled the Gambia shortly after the March abortive coup, which led to the arrest of dozens of army officers. Five of the coup suspects including Gambia’s former intelligence chief Daba Marena were reportedly murdered by the government. Competent and dependable sources say Bajinka and his wife are currently residing in Boston. The former army officer was on study leave in Nigeria when some soldiers led by Colonel Ndure Cham were linked to a coup plot against the Ruling APRC Government. Despite numerous media reports about the possibility of Bajinka being arrested if he returns home, Bajinka ignored such reports and decided to return home. The army major later absconded to Senegal as reports suggest that he was being trailed by armed soldiers a night prior to his escape.
Now that he is in the US, Bajinka is expected to cooperate with the media and tell us his role if there is any in aiding and abetting President Jammeh. He is also free to expose whatever information he gathered against the dictatorship. The Freedom Newspaper would be more than glad to accommodate revelations coming from Bajinka.
Reports linking him to the Independent Newspaper fire bombing also needs to be cleared. Gambians want to know what happened on that fateful day when the Independent was ransacked by enemies of Freedom. For Bajinka to play low profile attitude will not help the situation because such reports will no doubt hunt him in the future.
According to sources, the army fugitive is gradually settling down in Boston. A source who spoke to Freedom confirmed Bajinka’s presence in this country. He was airlifted thanks to the UNHCR offices in Dakar and the US. Bajinka has now joined the list of Gambian asylees.
Meanwhile, former junta number two man Sanna Bairo Sabally is yet to resettle in the US, a country he chose as his dream land. One of the reasons believed to be hindering Sabally’s resettling in the US was due to his role in the July 22ND coup. It’s against US policy for coup perpetrators or its agents to be given save heaven in America. Unconfirmed reports have it that Sanna's resettlement papers were denied. He had spent nearly five years in Dakar.
A former colleague of Bajinka who spoke to this paper remarked" If Bajinka can come to the US why not Sana Sabally? This was the guy who helped the President to burn down the Independent Newspaper. Bajinka is not better than Sanna. They both helped the President to harm our people. I'm saddned by his presence in the US. The US authorities should revisit their decision. I was personally dismissed from the force because of Bajinka. He was HE'S errand boy. Another Jammeh hit man has been admitted into the US. This decision got to be challenged." said the former soldier.
According to the former soldier" Bajinka is still wild and dangerous and is capable of being used by the President to target perceived enemies abroad. I will never stay in the same State with Bajinka. He is very evil. I will start raising a campaign to get his papers revoked. I was persecuted by Bajinka in The Gambia. There are other state guards in DC and elsewhere in the US who suffered from the hands of Bajinka. We are devastated by his presence in the country."
Mr.Bajinka could not be reached for comments at press time. But reliable sources confirmed his presence in the US. He is free to react to the allegations brought against him by his former colleagues now residing in the US. This paper is merely doing its required journalistic job. | Posted on Thursday, August 30, 2007 (Archive on Tuesday, September 11, 2007) Posted by PNMBAI Contributed by PNMBAI
