On the whole Jarga was a janitor and not CEO: The prince that never was! Essay part one! Keeping a job at Joko Enterprise depends on the individual’s productivity and willingness to show up on time. Many are call, but few are chosen. Having worked in 50 different stores, Jarga had a history of unstable work history. He hardly can keep a job for three months. Jarga still believes that he is a prince and should not do unskilled jobs, while in Noflie land.
The first day we met at work, he started telling me his story. He said his father was the king of Cambi Bolong. He served high positions in government. He got PHD in “woralu” meaning idling. That he was at a wrong place, at a wrong time. Jarga would often brag that he will quit the job, if his supervisors fail to give him a good raise after his ninety days probation. He also complained about how other staffers treat him.
As a new associate, I was more concerned about meeting the expectations of my employers after the ninety days probation than spending my precious time talking about others at work. Jaraga would lure me into unfinished conversation and gossip while on the company time.
It was evaluation time. Where Jaraga at? I asked my supervisor. He might as well be fired. I cried. What are you talking about Moses? Go check with admin to prove your curiosity. Yeah, Jaraga was indeed fired.
The following day, he stopped by the store and told us that he got a well paid job. He said he was the CEO of one of the Cleansing firms in limba. I was so excited to hear about Jaraga’s new job. He even extended an invitation for me to join him at his new company. I was bid skeptical because Jaraga has been known as a pathological liar.
I remember when he used to call his wife while at the Blackbeck company break room poising as he was the company CEO. Jaraga and Maffi were both hired as janitors, but he would claimed to be an office staff. He works overnight to clean offices and banks. Jaraga’s wife was made to believe that Jarga was the CEO of Blackbeck company. Interesting. Isn’t it.
It was one fine morning, when I walked into the rest room and found Jarga talking to himself, while he puts his wife on hold. “ Hold on Kani. I got some visitors in my office. I’m going to put you on speaker phone just to proof to you that I’m busy.” said Jarga.
Jaraga continued: Welcome John to Blackbeck company. We have good pay for our staffers including medical and dental insurance. For a start, I will pay you $20 dollars per hour. As far as you are with this company, the sky is the limit. I started with $50 dollars per hour as an associate. Today, I’m earning nothing less than $90,000 dollars per year. I’m the CEO of the company.” he brags.
I stood by the rest room door to monitor my friend’s conversation. As soon as he came out from the rest room, I showed up. “ What the heck are you talking about Jarga? Are you for real? Are you going mad or what? I heard you saying that you are the CEO of Blackbeck company? I remarked.
Jaraga replied” I was kidding with my wife. I don’t want her to know that I’m a janitor. I’m a prince. If my home boys know that I’m working here they will report me to my Dad. I had to lie that I’m doing skillful job just to escape from the spotlight. Please don’t tell management about this. I might be in trouble if you tell them. Matter of fact, I will quit this job in a week time.” said Jarga.
Jarga quits his job as promised. He left for good. Many customers missed him, because he was good at lifting heavy merchandise. On many occasions, customers would stop by and ask for tall and lanky fellow. He was just good when it comes to lifting heavy goods.
I was on shopping at a local shopping center, when I found him driving a power lift truck. “ Is this Jarga the prince? I asked. “Yes Sir. This is Jarga. I was hired to train these folks. I would be working here for one month. Our company is relocating to China. I got to hold on to this job until, I get another one.” he told me.
Jarga’s wife and kids were paying most of the bills, while he spent the whole day driving around town. Thanks to his cell phone, Jarga was able to fool many people in our little town. His story of being a company CEO was a lie.
