Foroya's Modou Nyang recently reported that the Gambia Football Association Secretary General Jammeh Bojng left Banjul for the United Kingdom for Masters Program Degree, but it seems the sudden departure of Mr.Bojang is creating an unfinished speculations. Reports have it that the former GFA Secretary fled with huge amount of money to the UK. Armed soldiers were reported to be looking for Mr.Bojang, whose departure came as a surprise to the football body. There was no formal handing over ceremony accorded to Bojang, thus raising well founded concern in sports circles that he might as well dipped his hands into the coffers of GFA. Prior to his alleged absconding, Jammeh Bojang, was alleged to have not been getting along with GFA officials-most importantly Gabbi Sosseh. FA officials say Bajang's failure to summit to an audit probe confirms about his alleged corrupt activities. It's not yet clear how much money Mr.Bojang must have squandered, but sources say the former GFA Secretary left with substantial amount of money. News of his departure reaches football governing authorities here during the weekend.
It's gathered that General Lang Tombong Tamba who happens to be an Executive Member GFA ordered his men to launch a man hunt for Jammeh Bojang. Many people here are wondering why armed soldiers should search for Bojang and not the police. Authorities in Banjul believe that Bojang was in hiding, but latest reports reaching this paper say Bojang is currently in the UK.
Jammeh Bojang over the years worked very hard to promote sports in The Gambia. His own colleagues are charging official graft against him, even though they refused to publicly comment on the subject matter. The Freedom Newspaper made numerous efforts to authenticate the said reports from the accused former GFA Secretary, but he could not be reached for comments. GFA insiders say Bojang left office without making formal handing over. They claimed that the former Secretary hurriedly left the country to avoid arrest and subsequent prosecution.
Jammeh Bojang's disappearance has created a shake-up among the rank file of the GFA. GFA officials are apparently downplaying the story, but news reaching this paper say armed soldiers are currently searching for Bojang. These soldiers have been assigned to apprehend Bojang alive or death. They were seen at Denton Bridge, Banjul/Barra Ferry terminal and other key locations across the country.
Allegations of graft are grave charges and therefore Mr.Bojang will do himself, family and supporters great service by clearing the air. This paper holds no grudges against Jammeh Bojang. We are merely reporting what is being said during his absence. For now, we shall give Mr.Bojang the benefit of the doubt.
Meanwhile, the detained GRTS Producer Malick Jones and Observer's Mam Sait Ceesay were yesterday escorted to Banjul for further questioning. Saja Taal and Andrew Dascosta are both reporting to the police pending the determination of the said case. The men were accused of publishing false news. Both the GRTS and the Observer reported that Ebrima JT Kujabi the State House Press Director was replaced by one Alex Dacosta. The two media houses claimed to have obtained the said story from authoritative sources at the State House.
Police are currently trying to trace the source(s) of the detainees. The detainees were given the option to reveal their source(s) or face criminal proceedings. Naming the said source(s) might lead to some arrests. Sources close to the Observer said the journalists acted on a false tip-off to report that JT was replaced when in the actual fact Kujabi was still on the payroll of the State House.
