Police Drops Fraud Charges Against Bala Jahumpa-Police Spokesman Tells Freedom Newspaper!

“Jahumpa have No Case To Answer.”

Bai Ousman Secka, Batata Juwara and Tijan Bah To Go To Court!

By Foday Ceesay Banjul.

The disgraced former Foreign Minister Bala Garba Jahumapa widely known as the action man has been set free by the Gambian police amid allegations that the Minister conspired with Bai Ousman Secka, Batata Juwara and others to defraud the state by engaging in passport scam. The office of the Inspector General of police has dropped charges against Bala Garba Jahumpa, while the remaining accused persons are awaiting their fate in the courts. Police Spokesman Sulayman Secka told the Freedom Newspaper Correspondent that Mr.Jahumpa was the only accused person cleared from any wrongdoing. Inspector Secka Jahumpa said have no case to answer as far as the said case was concerned. “Our investigations did not link Bala Jahumpa to any fraud. He has been freed. Instructions were given for the charges brought against Balla be dropped. The other accused persons are to go to court based on what the evidence gathered against them.” said the police spokesman.

Mr.Jahumpa who was hired as the Gambia’s new envoy to Venezuela had his services terminated following the said allegations brought against him by the state. Jahumpa was quoted as saying that he was still loyal to the APRC and nothing can make him to renounce his support for the President and his party. The Gambian leader is reported to have snubbed Jahumpa. The two are not in speaking terms.

Batata Juwara, Bai Ousman Secka and Tijan Bah have been granted bail. The three accused persons have denied the indictments. The police’s move to free Bala Jahumpa is been seen as an attempt to appease Bala’s sister Speaker Fatou Jahumpa Ceesay. It’s not yet clear if the orders to free Bala came from the President Yahya Jammeh. What’s evident though is that the President had been distancing himself from the sacked Minister.

A delegation of Banjul elders went to the state house to plead on behalf of the detained officials, but the President is adamant on his stance that wanting officials must account for their deeds.  Bala is currently out of employment.
