A 72 year old woman at Kabakama in Basse drowned on Thursday after tangling herself with a rope from the bucket she used to transport water with to their mosque.
Madam Binta, a very old woman was found drowned on Thursday 18th October 2007 by a young man from a nearby village. According to sources, the old woman prefers spending her day transporting water to the mosque and she had said, "I want to live my life cleaning God's temple."
According to her daughter, her mother had been doing the job for a long time without pay. She said on that day she had pulled the water and the rope from the bucket tangled round her feet and the bucket forced her inside the well with the family or relatives not knowing about it. Yesterday, she continues, a young man discovered her in the well. We suddenly reported to the police and the Basse Fire Service came and took her remains from the well. "We swore an affidifit after knowing that there was no foul play and the body was release to us." She said.
Taps are a problem in village areas of the URR. Many families go for well water for their daily needs. Meanwhile people have been warned to be careful in and around Manneh Kunda.
