The other day I saw retired Captain Edward Singhatey jogging along the Senegambia High way. Singahtey is fit and well. There is no sign of frustration on Edward’s face. He is a happy man, going about his normal life. He is a longtime friend of mine. As soon as he saw me we exchanged greetings. “ Sumaraka Nakam?” Meaning how are you my junior brother? I responded cool bro. He proceeded with his jogging exercise. In the meantime, his brother Colonel Peter Singhatey is in Ireland reading mechanical engineering. He is bid cautious about the way he does things. He minds a great deal about the people he talked to these days. Honourable Suku Singhateh is Edu’s friend. They dine and do things together. I met him at Suku’s house on numerous occasions. We have lunch together. When the news emerged that Edu has been fired, Suku too was worried. He thought that he was going to be fired. His relationship with Edu is no secret to the average Banjul man. The two had family ties. Speaker Fatou Jahumpa Ceesay was not happy about the close ties between the two.
I was present when HE Jammeh gave orders for Edward’s Diplomatic Passport to be ceased. I was also present when Musa Jammeh and General Tamba were ordered to closely watch the activities of Edu. Edu told me that he is aware of the plans hatched to get him arrested or possibly killed. He also knows the officials who lied against him to the President. Edu’s admission at the Gambia University might be revoked. The big man don’t want to see him pursue his law degree. He wants Edu out of the public domain. This might include possible assassination, abduction or jailing.
I know for a fact that Edu have a Civilian passport. His sisters had been prevailing on him to leave The Gambia. But the former soldier said he will never run away from his country. That he rather die in The Gambia, than to abandon his country. Edu is a soldier to the core.
Edu told Yahya Jammeh right into his face” take your job.” He was never sacked. He instead resigned. He walked out of the state house shortly he tendered his resignation. The President should be honest enough to report to The Gambian people about Edu’s resignation.
President Jammeh should not make the mistake and leave The Gambia from now on. I can bet that he will never return into this country if he leaves Banjul. He should also minimize his movements. He spent too much time between Banjul and Kanilai. His convoy might be attacked based on the reports reaching our office. His death is being premeditated. I don’t want to go into details, but there are foreign fighters on the ground. I don’t know how comes the NIA is not privy to this disturbing security matter. Kanilai is under threat. Banjul is under threat. Pa Jallow of the NIA is sleeping. Interior Minister Ousman Sonko is sleeping. General Lang Tombong Tamba is sleeping. When the plot is executed, Yahya Jammeh would be history.
This is my first time writing to the Freedom Newspaper. I’m passing this information to your paper because he reads your paper. Since the NIA is not doing its job, I deem it necessary to come out in the open. I work here at the office of the President. I careless if they transfer me to another unit. Our internal security unit is inefficient.
President Jammeh’s own close protection guards are being corrupted. They say so many bad things about him. They are working hand in hand with some officers at the GAF Head Quarters. These close protection officers would be the first people to disown HE. I will stop here for now. I'm a seasoned intel officer. The President should not make the mistake to transfer me to another unit. Our DG should be moved if he wants to stay long in office. There are many intelligence failures. More are coming.
