Editorial: Shame On Subversive Groups!! Let Give Chance To Democracy!
There are so many clandestine movements, these days in The Gambia. Most of these Movements are operating underground. Very few people are brave enough to be identified with such organizations. They claimed to be working on liberating our oppressed people. Yet, they are afraid to come out in the open. They dispatched statements, without signing for  it. We call such people cowards. They want to effect change and yet they don’t want to do what it takes to effect a change. True warriors, account for their  activities. They take pride for  what they do.

Gambians are sick and tired of these petty talks and threats. It’s time for action. It’s fool hardy for any of these so called freedom fighters to believe that  by issuing threats, without action can make Jammeh go. If they are truly committed to what they preach, nothing is stopping them from flying home and join the struggle. South Africa never gained  their freedom under silver platter. They fought for it. Democratic change can only take place if the masses are educated about  their civic rights and duties. Our people have the final say to determine the future of the Gambia and not dissidents. Subversive activities undermine democracy. Gambia and her people don’t need dissidents to liberate them. The real liberators are the voters. We need ballots and not bullets.

The Sierra Leonean and Liberian decade long war, should serve as an eye opener to the Continent. Insurgency should be discouraged by all means. Gambians should refused  to be associated with any Pressure Group, which is not operating through the dictates of the law. Calling for the overthrow of a Government, is irresponsible and totally unacceptable.  We call it an utter  nonsense. We as a people, must respect the wishes of The Gambian people. Changing a Government through forceful means is undemocratic and illegal. This is why the United States, UK and other leading democracies have zero tolerance for agents of coup and their supporters. They considered coups,  as stumbling block for democracy, which is a hard fact. You don’t just change a government by force because the said Government is dictatorial.

Those interested in spearheading political change in The Gambia, should form political parties or join the existing political parties to engage the dictatorship. This is the only way out for now. We do not want to see another Liberia or Sierra Leone. Africa has seen enough atrocities over the years. Lets us nurture peace. Peace is an expensive commodity. No one should play with it.

The media can play a crucial role,  in discouraging agents of subversive activities by refusing to be used to spread hate and violence. Freedom of Expression, goes with absolute responsibility. No one wants to see The Gambia in flames. The Gambia is bigger than Yahya Jammeh. We should not lost tract of this fact. In as much, as we want to see Jammeh go, we should refused to be used by people with vicious intend.

Yes, Yahya Jammeh is a dictator to the core. Gambians want to see him go, but we should allow the electoral process to take it cause. Anything short of this, is a mockery to democracy. You don’t use arms to change a Government because it’s not living up  to your expectations. You do not kill civilians,  because you want to delegitimize a  bad government. There are set up standards  for effecting political change globally.

In a  real democratic dispensation, effecting political change, squarely lies in the hands of  electorates. This is the only way to enhance democracy and good governance on the African continent. Rebellions retard development on the continent. Thousands have perished over the years, thanks to these power drunken rebels. Innocent young men are being recruited by selfish politicians to serve as rebels. They maim and kill people in the name of effecting political change.

Gambians will disown any Government that’s to come through undemocratic means. We have learned our lessons from the then junta,  turned Civilian rulers. The July 22ND Coup was a curse for the Gambia and her people. No meaningful development,  had  been recorded since the coming of the Kakiki boys. The junta instead undermines,  almost all the developmental sectors of this country. Most of their white elephant projects,  were mere misplaced priorities.

Finally, we call on Gambians to disassociate themselves,  with any group trying to use force to effect political change. There is nothing like home. We have our fathers, Uncles, Sisters and other relatives on the ground. Gambians overseas cannot be at peace,  if The  Gambia is in turmoil. War have no boundary. Lets clandestine movements hold their  horse. Gambians don’t need you to effect change. The right people to effect political change is the voting population. Lets give chance to democracy!!!
