Breaking News:Gambia:NIA Hunts For Absconded EX- GAMSU President Nyabally!! Nybally spotted in Spain!
By Correspondent Karafa Badjie, Banjul.

The erstwhile Gambia Student Union President Alhagie Nyabally, is being trailed by agents of the National Intelligence Agency  the (NIA),  following reports that the former GAMSU strongman had  absconded from the jurisdiction of The Gambia, the Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively report. Nyabally who left his wife and kids behind, was  said to be currently residing in Spain. He arrived in Madrid this past week, amid increasing threats on his life. Some agents of the NIA were said to have visited his house, where they interviewed  his wife about the former student unionist's whereabouts. Nyabally's wife was reported to have told the NIA that she doesn't know about her husband's whereabouts. Madam Nyabally is currently living in anxiety and worry, as the NIA repeatedly harassed her. It's not yet clear what might have triggered the NIA to react in such a way, but informed sources say Nyabally has long been targeted by the state for persecution. He suffered numerous arrest and death threats from agents of the NIA.

Well placed sources close to the corridors of power in Banjul, say  Nyabally risked being killed if he had continually stayed in that impoverished tiny West African country. These sources who wished to remain anonymous say Nyabally was among the list of political opponents to be eliminated by the state. " The NIA is currently trailing Nyabally and other student leaders. He should avoid  coming back to this country.  He risked being killed if he ever steps his foot here. As we speak, the NIA are searching for him. He escape came as a big shock to the agency. Nybally was considered as a  security threat by the state. There was a special file opened for him by this office." said the NIA official in Banjul.

The top NIA official would not say why Nyabally was wanted, but insists that his chances of being killed were  high if  he ever returns to The Gambia. Mr.Nyabally who is widely known as Mandella, never minces his feelings regarding the state sponsored murder of Gambian students in April of 2000. He openly condemned the killings of his colleagues, which resulted to his arrest and subsequent persecution.

Mr.Nyabally was also arrested some years ago for branding President Jammeh as a "hypocrite" bent on dividing Gambian students. For Nyabally, it was wrong for President Jammeh to sponsor NAPSA,  a pro-government student body, which was created by the jailed Jarra MP Baba K Jobe, with the sole objective of undermining the activities of the main student body  GAMSU. Known for his outspokenness, Nyabally spent days behind bars for allegedly speaking out  against the Head of State. He was released,  but warned to avoid castigating the Head of State.

Meanwhile, an emailer who reached the Freedom Newspaper today also hinted about an arrest warrant issued against some student leaders. The emailer however,  refused to mention Nyabally's name, but hinted that the state was after the heads of these unnamed students, who recently fled the country. "Well it has been rumored  that some students leaders in the Gambia are been hunted in the Gambia and one of them whose name is been kept secret has for the past few days not been seen and is believed to have fled the country some time last week.  His wife has refused to comment on his case for the fear of being  pick up by the security officials. She is in great pain and anguish.  She does not talk to  the press,  as the ultimate solution provider  for her. She said she was warned to avoid the press at all times .She plans to talk to Uncle Halifa Sallah on this  issue, but in the mean time she prefers anonymity." said the emailer.

The Freedom Newspaper was able to establish that Nyabally had indeed left the country and is currently settling in Spain. A well placed source who spoke to us said Nyabally left Banjul due to increasing threat on his life and personal safety. The former GAMSU President was fired from his teaching job due to political reasons. His statement touching on religious issues, was viewed by the NIA as a threat to national security. Instructions were given for Nyabally's services to be terminated with immediate effect.
