Breaking News:Gambia: Intelligence Chief Forced To Resign Or Face the invitable Sack!!
The Director General of Gambia’s National Intelligence Agency Pa Jallow,  has been forced to resign or face the inevitable  sack. Mr.Jallow in a letter addressed to the President announced to step down from office for medical reasons, but NIA insiders say the former DG,  was given two options- either to resign or to be fired. He has been replaced by his Deputy Malamin Jarju, a relative of President Jammeh. Jarju used to head the military intelligence, before being redeployed to the NIA,  as the agency’s number two man. His predecessor Pa Jallow,   was said to have not met the expectations of the President. That Jallow refuses to enforce the Presidential decree to arrest and detain the civilian population without trial. Jallow was also blamed for his inability to detect and avert crimes,  which is said to be on the increase in The Gambia. An NIA official who spoke to this paper said Jallow was also blamed for the leakage of the agency’s files on the Freedom Newspaper.

Pa Jallow was the Gambian High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria prior to his appointment as NIA DG. Mr.Jallow served the then National Security Services in the First Republic. As soon as Jallow took over the NIA, he issued a public statement assuring the general public that the agency's days to double in police duties would be a thing of the past. He says all arrest must passed through his office and no NIA agent can operate on his own. This statement of Jallow brought some kind of relief to the oppressed populace. They have time and time lamented about the NIA'S brutality and lack of respect for the rule of law.

Well, Pa Jallow has failed in his bid to re-organize the battered NIA. The President has named his own cousin to head the agency. From day one, many here believe that Jallow was just hired to dispel the widely  held notion that the NIA was being jallanized. It's now evident that most security institutuions across the country are headed by President Jammeh's tribe men.
