We are blessed. We thank God for giving us the strength and wisdom to run this leading Gambian online paper. Two years means a lot for us at Freedom. We have achieved a lot during the period in question. We have not only increased the reading horizon of news thirsty Gambians, but we have also helped to empower them through this very medium.
When we first conceived the idea of setting up the Freedom Newspaper one year ago, financial issue became the main bond of contention. Running an online paper requires money, committed editorial team, good computers and a dedicated hosting company. We went into the business with an open mind-relying holly and surely on the support of the almighty God.
With little or nor computer skills, we still decided to give it a try. A trial which led us to such a success story today. The Freedom Newspaper is well read, well circulated and sourced by other international media outlets.
The Freedom Newspaper is today attracting a loyal readership from all the corners of the world. We are ten times well read than the Daily Observer. And this is Gambia’s main Daily Newspaper. Universities, Human Rights Organizations, investors, News Organizations, Researchers and tourists used the Freedom Newspaper for research.
On numerous occasions, we have been contacted for help by research groups, requesting independent information about Gambia’s political situation. Their areas of enquiry revolves around- issues relating to political, economic, historical, tourism among others. We do our very best to attend to such researchers. We always ensured that information coming from this paper is factual and accurate.
Having said that, the Freedom Newspaper has an open door policy. People come and go, but the paper remains. The future of the Freedom Newspaper is in the hands of Gambians and not an individual person. We are here at Freedom thanks to your support and encouragement over the years.
Our daily hits speak for itself. We can only go out of business if people don’t read our site. This is why we do everything humanely possible to get you good stuff every morning. Freedom's Reporters and Editors are working round the clock to get you good stuff every morning. Start your morning breakfast by reading this leading online Paper.
In order to keep our audience, we must be consistent in our news presentation. We endeavored to bring you up-to-date Gambian news. Our stories are original and not photocopied. We try to present the news professionally without injecting our views into it.
In the year 2007, we spent $3000 dollars on stringer payments and other logistical matters. News stories published by Freedom are commissioned. We have three staff Reporters on our payroll as we speak. These reporters are very dedicated. They risked their lives to serve Freedom.
It’s imperative to note that, donors such as our British Friend Micheal Scales have been very supportive to the Freedom Newspaper. Thanks to Mr. Scales, we were able to extend our coverage to sports and other stories of human interest. We therefore say big thank you to Mr. Scales. We are proud of you.
Despite the challenges, we are resolute to advance the cause of Freedom. This paper was set up to serve humanity. We believe in promoting democracy and good governance on the continent. The Freedom Newspaper shall continue to be the guiding touch light for the oppressed and underprivileged Gambians.
We are not in this media business to enrich ourselves. We spent more money on the upkeeping of Freedom than we make. Very few people are helping out to run this paper. Since the launching of our pay pal account, we only received financial help from one or two Gambians. Most of the contributors are non Gambians.
We are not saying this out of prejudice, but as we observe this important day, we deem it imperative to say things as we see it. Helping Freedom means, helping your country. Our news stories are given to you free of charge. Remember that the reporters who filed these stories are paid and the hosting company. There is no Newspaper in The Gambia, which is read free of charge. You have to buy a copy in order to read the Observer, the Point or Foroyaa.
Our people must do away with the notion that the internet is free. The internet is not free. You must buy a space before you can launch a website. There is nothing free in America or anywhere in the world. We must do away with this belief of having things for free. Lets support our online papers.
As we celebrate Freedom’s two year anniversary, we are pleased to announce that our Managing Editor has been admitted by one of the Universities in the United States to read Mass Communication. He’s pursuing a degree program and he therefore bank on your prayers to realize his dream.
We would cater time to run Freedom despite our busy schedules. Education is paramount and must be given priority. As we grow as a paper, we need to prepare ourselves intellectually. That’s a must!!
On a final note, we want to thank all those who emailed or telephoned us during our anniversary. We appreciate your kind words and encouragement. Freedom forever. Backwards, Never!!
