Michael Scales Expresses Concern Over UK’S Move To Deny Visa To A Sick Gambian!!!
By Michael Scales, UK
Dear Mr. Editor,
As a concerned British Citizen, I am almost speechless, to view the story posted by The Banjul Observer, concerning the plight of the Gambian Citizen....Momoudou, who has been denied an entry visa to the U.K.
Momoudou, is suffering from elephantiasis. A particularly nasty and debilitating illness. It is reported that Momoudou has received an offer of help from Britain to treat his affliction and completed the necessary entry forms to gain legal admission, but for some reason has had his application denied. Whilst I am not privileged to all the mitigating circumstances surrounding this case, I must accept the description posted by the Observer, as a matter which troubles me greatly. Before I engage in outright condemnation of our embassy, without knowing the whole story, may I respectfully ask Momoudou or his relatives to get in touch with me through your offices and I would be happy to take up this matter. I remain in touch with another problem case given to me as previously posted by the Observer....the outcome to which still remains unsatisfied.
The Gambia is a highly valued member of The Commonwealth and as such deserves the very best consideration from the British Government especially in matters of Humanitarian concern. This particular case should be given top priority and every careful consideration. May I apologize for deflecting the cause of this honorable newspaper in this worthy connection.
