The Kalagi Police Station is now named after President’ Yahya Jammeh’s mother, Aji Asombi Bojang ,the Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively report. The renaming of the Station which took place over the weekend was presided over by President Jammeh and the event was celebrated in grand style.
According to our sources , President Jammeh also presided over the weekend the official opening of a new Police Station in Kniwella, Foni Jarrol, Western Region. Speaking on the occasion , Jammeh said that the Kwinella Police Station is built to reduce crime rate in the area. The Gambian leader who appeared somehow paranoid at the ceremony, emphasized that his government will continue to beef up the security adding that his government will never compromise with the peace and stability of this country.
Shortly after presiding over the inauguration of Kwinella Police Station , President Jammeh and his entourage proceeded to Kalagi where he presided over the renaming of Kalagi Police Station , naming the Station now after his mother Aji Asombi Bojang.
Many observers have sharply criticized the president for naming the Kalagi Police after his mother . They lamented that Jammeh is now usurping all the powers from the people , alleging that Jammeh is a brutal dictator whose hungry for power and fame knows no bounds. Mr. Jammeh has been accused of nationalizing his family, when in actual fact, the state is bigger than the Jammeh family.
A top police official remarked” This is utter rubbish. How can he name the Kalagi Police post after his Mum, when this woman have not done anything significant for The Gambia and the people of Foni. It’s wrong for the President to name the Kalagi police post after his mother. No matter how many changes, they effect, people will still call that station, the Kalagi police station. We in the Force are very angry. The President is acting foolish by luring our IGP into such useless ventures.”
Another police officer remarked” I think the President’s mother should be named after the Mile Two Maximum Prisons. His son Yahya Jammeh will one day be sheltered at the Mile Two Prisons. Aja Asombi Bojang really deserve to be named after the Mile Two Prisons considering the atrocities perpetrated by his son Jammeh. The Mile Two could be a good title to be given to the President’s Mum. His son will taste prison life, God willing. We in the force are positive about that. What goes around, comes around.”
Observers also believe that the New Police Station in Kwinella was a waste of public funds adding that the station should have been built in another area where they need it more.
“There are already lots of police stations in the Fonis, so why the need to open another one here. There are areas that need police station because of the high crime rates in those areas,” fumed a concerned senior citizen.
Meanwhile , even though government continue to open more and more police stations in the country , crime rate is seemingly on the increase with police officers sometimes found aiding and abetting criminals.
