The sacked Daily Observer Reporter Buya Jammeh, is now working with the Today Newspaper, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. The journalist is said to be reporting for the Today Newspaper. He was sacked by the Ethiopian runaway fighter Dida Halake for his association with The Gambia Press Union. Halake was unhappy with Jammeh’s refusal to give up his GPU Executive Membership.
The new GPU President Ndey Tapha Sosseh in an interview with VOA’S James Butty denounces the sacking of Buya Jammeh. “It is rather unfortunate that the Daily Observer has chosen to ask a member of staff to leave because he associated with the union. But the union is a union for all Gambian journalists irrespective of editorial slant or orientation. So it is in the interest of all journalists that we all work together to address the issues affecting us like access to information. It is quite difficult to get information in the Gambia. There’s a lot of self-censorship that people have had in the past. And we will continue to engage the government in dialogue. May be there is misunderstanding in some quarters,” she said.
