No Coup! No coup but.......
BY Che Enesto
Fellow Gambians, I stand against any coup for a number reasons, not matter the circumstances it will difficult to justify a coup. Yesterday 15/04/2006, there was 10 000 man walk in solidarity with the APRC Government, the organizer should remember that "a coup is only illegal if it fails".
To make coups unnecessary you must create a democratic order that is transparent where people can live without fear, ask question without fear and get correct answers without distortion.
If we say no coup have we worked to make sure that condition that create coups are absent. For example arrest and detention without trial, the story of the escape(death) of the 5 alleged coup makers and other related issues create the condition for a coup.
April 11 (six year ago), a number of peace loving student were killed, no one has been held responsible for this. Yet we came out to walk asking for no coup while the issues of human rights have not been; did any of those who walked carry a banner asking for fair trial of the alleged coup makers.
The struggle to have a peaceful Gambia need the participation of all, and that all issue should be given the same attention. No matter how small the issue is, be in whether it affects Gambians or foreigners in the Gambia.
Will come back on this , have to go
