Banjul Who is Who? And Who Does What?-Town Crier Thank you so much for featuring most of the articles I have been sending to
you. I admire those of you who live in organised societies. Unlike here in
Gambia Oga and his cronies are always talking about security, security and
security threats. And each time I listen to these loud mouths it makes me
sick inside. Who is Yahya and Co trying to secure, Gambians or themselves?
Gambians don't have any problem with anybody. It is Oga who has disvirgined
our stability and poked noses that others have never dared touch. Now that
he has created enemies for himself both internal, sub-regional and
international he is fuming around about security threats. Of course a
stubborn child who ventures into the meeting of elders where he has no
business being in the first place, should be ready to handle things bigger
than himself. And this is the point where Yahya has reached. Yahya is just a
bluff and he knows that. Hand to hand combat most of us in the service are
far superior than he is. He is only relying on half baked and ill-educated
tribesmen to intimidate the peace loving Gambians in the name of security
just to perpetuate himself at the helm of power. What are you securing when
the border is as porous as a fenceless house? What are the threats if you
are not the worst of it? Gambians fear his hit men more than they do Senegal
or even Guinea Bissau. These would never do anything to Gambia if
our nimcompoop behaves himself. Instead his men harrass the masses more than
the mosquitos here do to us. They are like pests everywhere.
*Roles of Security Personnel*
We as soldiers of our nation are here to protect the nation in case of any
external aggression and beef up internal security where the police can't
handle it and ask for our help.
The Police are to take care of our internal policing and the protection of
the rights of the citizens.
The immigration is there to take care of identification of citizens,
issuance of travel documents, monitoring who enters and leaves our shores
among other things.
The NIA to liaise with Police to help uncover scrupulous and plots against
the stability of our country's citizens. In fact if they are doing this
right, Yahya should be hunted more than the rabbits in the forest.
However if you look at Gambia today, one can hardly tell who does what. Of
course those of us who are here are not surprise. When a nation is ruled by
a confusionist and Master demonist what do you expect? Confusion will be
the order of the day. If you have all this supernatural protection from
demons why then waste our energy and resources to guard you, family and
Kanilai? Why don't you even command these jinns to work in your garden and
leave us the civil servants alone? Is this economically sensible to you? If
you come to the Gambia, you have our boys (the military personnel) doing
traffic checks and stops, and then asking for identifications, drivers'
licence and even arresting people. Police duties have been usurped by the
military so much so that the police have been emasculated of thier roles and
confined to sitting idley in offices and chatting away precious hours just
to make a salary at the end of the month. Added to this confusion, Yahya is
yet creating more security units. And one wonders to do what? This is just
utter nonsense and a waste of state resources. A wise man once said, "if you
don't dip you hands into palm oil, they will never be red" Oga has dipped
his hands deep into reddish liquid and he has stepped on toes. The globe
trotting president has now been reduced to a caged baboon in Abuko. He
cannot travel freely as there are only a few countries where this scary
mouse is welcomed. No security outfit confines itself to its mandate. Anyone
can do anything in the name of secutiry. Security is created and deserved.
If you meddle in the affairs of others expect them to poke their fingers
into your eyes until they are sore red.
*Do You Know you SOSs?*
There is something pathetic that is happening here in the Gambia. Our school
kids no longer know who their ministers are. Gone are those Jawara days when
everyone knew them off head. The buffoon we now have changes them like he
does his underpants to the extent that people here have lost track or
interest in following up. Yahya himself I can swear cannot name who has
manned what ministerial position from 1994 to date. He cannot because he
hires them, used them up and phew fires them. An aide once told me he
overheard Oga asking who is the minister of Agriculture? "He is doing
nothing, I am going to fire him". And he was told Oga you are the one
occupying the seat. See what I am talking about. Between me and Allah, I
asked a lecturer at the Gambia University of who a particular SOS was and
the reply: "I don't know. Honestly I have stopped following who is SOS of
what since there is no point learning them. The only ones worth learning is
VP and HE since those have not changed for a long time. So if someone
lecturing at the university cannot remember who is where how much more our
school kids? Oga it is time to pack and go. You have done us so much
diservice and you know it inside yourself honestly.
I will stop here and in my next e-mail, I will send you information on how
Mr. Corruption has reared his ugly head at the Banjul ferry service:
a continuaiton of our encounters with my friend Parrot, wife, and kid.
Wasalam.
