Some junior officers of the Gambian Armed Forces are accusing President Yahya Jammeh of trying to buy their superiors by promoting them. “ We are not happy with the President. If he thinks that these senior officers can save him from being replaced, then he is making a great mistake. Our men are very wild at this hour in the barracks. Our salaries had been stagnant for the past five years. How can he promote these officers, when they are not doing any serious work? We will get our promotion when we takeover the State House. From Gen. Tamba to the last officer, would be arrested that day. Oga must be very lucky if he survives. We are asking all our comrades to stick to the plans strategized for this day. We are doing all the donkey job and yet we are the least paid in the army. Oga should get ready. No backup troops can repel us. We want to end this discrimination in the army.” The disgruntled soldiers said in a statement sent to the Freedom Newspaper.

 A self-styled soldier with the name Sergeant Cox,  who signed the statement said “ We are calling on the officers of The Gambia Armed Forces not to resist any arrest because any move to resist arrest, would result into a major tragedy. We are confident about what we are saying and let them resist arrest and see what will happen. The NIA is free to come to our barracks and sound our feelings. We are on the verge of exploding. Our foolish Gen.Tamba  should stop lying. He has been telling Oga all kinds of lies. We are not loyal to him. We hate Oga.” Said Sergeant Cox.

Cox said the mass promotion was done to discourage the planned coup, which many top officers of the army were part of it. “ They have betrayed us by accepting these promotions. This coup will happen by the grace of God. Oga will f…. his mother by  the time we are ready. We will teach him a lesson he will never forget in life. We know that he is planning to get rid of our strongman Mass Kinteh. We know what was said at the meeting between him and Lang. The Vice President will never see the sun when we are ready. We calmed our men, otherwise they would have go ahead with the coup. Oga will wonder why we sent this statement to the Freedom Newspaper. We want him to know what’s in our mind. This coup will never failed.” Said the statement.

The statement adds “ For the past 13 years, we have lost many of gallant officers. Oga too will disappear soon. He thinks that he can divide and rule the army. We are call on Gambians to remain calm when the inevitable day comes.”
