Gambia’s President Yahya Jammeh has warned Gambian men to quit the Bantabas and engaged in worthwhile ventures that would bring economic prosperity for the impoverished West Africa nation. Addressing jubilant party supporters in the town of Farafenni, President Jammeh expresses dissatisfaction about the lazy attitude of some Gambian men, who according to the President “spent most of their precious time in Bantabas doing anything worthwhile.” The President who is on his meet the people’s tour calls on Gambian men to go back to the land and farm. He says many men are being taken care of by their wives in rural and urban Gambia. This lazy attitude said the president must end if we are interested in economic and political prosperity.

Mr. Jammeh warns that rice prices are bound to go up since Gambian men are not willing to farm. He says there cannot be food security when men are not prepared to work. “if the President is farming who are you not to farm. Quit the Bantabas and go to the farms.” Said President Jammeh.

Jammeh said as long as Gambian men are not willing to answer to his call for back to the land their families would continue to suffer from hunger and starvation. He says the people hard hit by hunger are the ones who refused to farm.

The President insulted Gambian men by calling them bunch of lazy and useless people. He says Gambian men he had never seen useless people like Gambian men. The President who was applauded by his supporters, said Gambian men are not building a better foundation for their children and grand children. He says such idleness should ceased.

For his part, SOS Yankbuba Touray thanked the people of North Bank for voting for the APRC in the past elections. “ This why you are enjoying Government’s developmental projects. We are very proud of you.” He said.

Other speakers at the Farafenni meeting include: The newly appointed  Chief of Upper Badibou Foday Sarr Jammeh who gave the welcoming  remarks, Youth leader Alpha Dibba and  Women representative  Aja Isatou Jallow.

Meanwhile, according to our correspondent "On Wednesday Jammeh will attend a political rally in Kaur from where he is billed to visit a women's vegetable garden project in Wassu. The President and entourage will depart Wassu at 1:30p.m. for Janjanbureh where he will visit the President's rice field before settling for the night."

According to the itinerary president Jammeh will visit the new police station in Bansang on Thursday, visit Gambisara in the URR and attend a victory celebration in the administrative base Basse, where he will be spending the night. The delegation will depart Basse on Friday for a meeting in Koina where the President is expected to join a congregation for the Juma Prayers.

President Jammeh and entourage will also visit projects in CRR South, LRR, Western Region, and KMC before ending the tour on the 16th May with a meeting at the July 22nd Square in Banjul.

Our correspondent said the President is not a happy man. Farmers are crying for hunger, lack of farming tools, better living and good housing. High cost of living and the unfinished poverty was also high on the agenda. The President was saddened by the low turnout of his tour. Many communities refused to welcome the President.
