DC AD MEETING CALLING!!
DC Organizations unite to celebrate 25th ALD anniversary
In an extraordinary move, three Gambian organizations in the Metro DC area have united to celebrate the 25th ALD slated for Friday, May 23 to Sunday May 25 2008. The Gambian American Association and the Gambia Maryland Association (formerly Gambia Support Group) decided to join hands with DC Gambians Organization (soccer team), which had been organizing the event since 1999, to create a united front and to have a more cohesive event.
The ALD, which is the oldest Gambian re-union event in the USA, had suffered a setback, when in 1998 a rift between two organizations resulted in two separate ALD events. It was at that point that the DC soccer team decided in 1999 to rescue the ALD by taking the event over. However, in the interest of unity this year the organizations decided to join hands in organizing the Silver Jubilee with the hope of achieving an improved and more attractive event.
This year’s ALD programs will kick off with a Sabarr and Gala Night with Aloune Jagne Faye (Mbye Gaye Faye’s brother) and the Sing Sing rhythm on Friday May 23. This will be followed by a Soccer tournament on Saturday and later the ALD Party and will end on Sunday with a Picnic and soccer finals and a farewell party at 2150 Industrial Parkway, Silver Spring MD 20904.
The Soccer tournament will feature the following teams: New York (defending champions), Atlanta, Philadelphia, Old Hands, Senegal DC, Ohio, Rhode Island and the host Washington DC. The Saturday soccer will take place at 6500 Columbia Park Rd, Landover, MD 20785
