Released Gambian Asylum seeker Gibril Saine pays tribute to Sheriff Dibba!!!!
Mr Editor,
Please allow me space to convey my condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the Dibba family in the gambia and beyond on the tragic death of their father,sheriff mustapha Dibba.
He was a man of courage and distinction on the gambian political scene for many decades.
Mr editor,i shared your grief and that of your readership on the passing away of a man whose's unexpected death will surely reverberate on all corners of our tiny gambia.His name is instantly recognisable from the old folk to the new and with his death robbing the nation of his wealth of experience who students and politicians alike turn to for advice and ideas!
The chief-editor of the point newspaper [mr pap saine] fondly remembers an interview he had with the great man himself in the mid 70s after his resignation from the jawara government.When the question was put to him why he resigned,his answer was clear: He resigned because he has become disillusioned with the government and their policies especially towards the rural areas.[he hails from the countryside].He resigned from his portfolio because of his disagreement with the president and cabinet colleagues on how to persue certain policies best for the country.
Now can you say the same for the current crop of ministers and law makers running the affairs of our state? We can only pray and hope that his death serves a purpose,that alarm bells will ring and a leave taken from his notebook.
I for one don't know the man himself,but i happen to attend gambia high school for many years with his nephew of the same name[mustapha dibba].He's a good friend of mine and incase you are reading this pal,my thoughts are with you and your family.
May 'Allah'have mercy on his soul,'Ameen'.
