Dide Halake’s journalism suffocates Gambian diplomacy-State house regrets utterances against gays-cannot hide the traces!
By Hammadi Maasinah.
It is now so obvious that Yahya Jammeh is about to disown our so-called combattive editor in chief at the daily observer. Oh Yes! Dide you have outlived your usefulness to Jammeh. Wait, he will throw you away like a piece of toilet roll soonest. The indications are rising from all corners. Dide remember we as born Gambians can read between the lines before you can. It is about culture not xenophobia. Like you can also read things faster than us if indications were shown against anyone of us in Adis Ababa. That’s a natural fact brother Halake.
We are not xenophobic. Sure we aren’t. If we were then a South Africa-version would have hit your door step a long time ago. Instead of attacking you physically we engaged you as political-opportunist.
Now look here my good friends! I was not surprised when I read on the point newspaper where the author said the following: That is, contrary to what some journalists wrote, the two Spanish who were accused of committing an “unnatural act”(by the daily observer’s editor-state house’s spokes person) instead left The Gambia at night! They did not reach the court house. Which journalist wrote what contradicts the actual facts? The daily observer, to be more specific Dide Halake did!(ref: the extracted piece hereunder). There are undercurrents right now between the state house and the department of state for foreign affairs! The latter are busy piecing up “convincing” rebuttals to go against a media tide that rose to expose President Jammeh’s utterances against gays. Didn’t this very column advise Dr Omar Touray to get ready for stinking diplomatic spots like these a couple of months back? Yes Indeed. He was told to run the show by using less hyperboles and flowery styles. Today Dr Touray is experiencing the hidden and acidic side of being a chief diplomat for an insane head of state. What is more difficult in this world than representing a man like Yahya Jammeh in the diplomatic field? Tell me!
A huge tsunami of media reactions has been hitting the base in Banjul over other things all these years. Well before Jammeh said the latest controversial utterances against gays. This was just a last straw on the camel’s back. After the camel fell on its knees, the act drew reactions from other quarters. It pleases us down here to see everyone jumping on Jammeh saying he has gone way beyond the boundaries of decency. It pleases us because gradually objectivity is washing the faces of those sleeping in denial and selfishness.
Yahya Jammeh has been on the wrong side of decency for a long time but for some reason we had people trying to see fresh meat from the decaying sides of a dead pig! That’s not possible.
Gambians have already been informed about the regime’s frantic efforts to stop the media tsunami. This is exactly why under this very column I wrote, saying, Yahya is nothing other than a hypocrite who causes sparks of evil while insulting the faithful. Today we have been vindicated once again. Jammeh is busy using his so-called diplomats for what some call “damage control”? What damage? This is not damage, this is decadence. We can control damage or manage crisis but never can we control or manage decadence! This is what we call “beyond repair”.
The state house and dept of state for foreign affairs are porous institutions these days were no secret can be kept for more than 15 minutes! That is how we got wind of the flying diplomatic notes at this hour. Notes meant to help control the side effects of a "damaging" media tsunami? The source of the tsunami was facilitated by an over zealous praise-singer. Mr Dide Halake our born again Pan Africanist. Chei! A Pan Africanist who was in London praising the union jack until he became a citizen? A Pan Africanist-Islamist who writes wills to be inherited by his family? Does Islam honour wills? Lest we do not remember the essence of Sharia laws towards inheritence. Hypocrisy at the farthest in The Gambia. Decency is alien here!
Let us share with these fools something factual here. That is,Jammeh’s utterances have already been shelved therefore none can erase these words from the minds of the recipients so easily. What the dept of state for foreign affairs, VP’S office, security council and dept of state for information need to do is simple. Let them unanimously advise Yahya Jammeh to SHUT UP FOR at least 3 months.
This way they can at least reduce the noise that is coming from an insane person. Thus save them and us here some valuable time. This will also at least save The Gambia from another international stigma. We are already above any country in Africa on that one.
Spanish gays are gone while citizens of the UK are trying so hard to convince her majesty’s government to issue a travel advise to tourists? Those choosing The Gambia as a holiday destination from the UK? UK and Sweden have been traditionally known as people who love going to The Gambia as tourists. Today who stands to loose? We or them? Are all these tourists gay? Not at all. Well can they deny being related to gays as well? Not at all. Will they prefer seeing their kins beheaded by a president who jives in town with a sword every other day? Not at all. Now isn’t Jammeh’s government in a catch 22 here?
If I were to advise Yahya I would simply tell him to be reading speeches written by his technocrats during any meeting now onwards. Because! Even if he wants to use hypocritical diplomatic notes he will say worse things along the way. Yahya’s habit cannot be changed by sweet words! He will do more damage the next time he talks again if he is not curtailed or guided by speech writers. Don’t attempt putting lip stick on the “protruding” lips of a bush pig.
Diplomacy has its limits too!!!
Who said this? Dide Halake. On behalf of who? Yahya Jammeh! So Yahya why regret what you said while calling yourself a true believer?
Allah or God hates hypocrites!
