MEDIA FUNDRAISER IN SUPPORT OF GAMBIAN JOURNALISTS-1st MAN STANDING MOMODOU JUSTICE DARBOE
By Essa Bokarr Sey
As a result of some unpleasant developments affecting the lives of Gambian journalists particularly those within the country’s territory, a decision has been taken to help add actions to words. Well wishers or people with big hearts have started a process geared towards supporting our brothers and sisters in view of the above subject. There is no doubt in our minds that any practicing journalist within a circle where social justice has since “evaporated” is a true hero. They are being saluted not only with flowery words but with actions meant to help complement their sacrifices with appreciations.
Let us all start thinking about the child at home who is constantly peeping through the window waiting for a father or mother to come back after work, only to be told, those parents aren’t there any more. That child stays with those sad memories while being told his or her loving father or mother was butchered to death, tortured or chased out of the country! Why? Because someone or some people can do anything wrong therefore help replace right with might.
Isn’t that a sad case we should collectively chase away then help wipe the tears of these helpless parents and children? I as a parent can imagine the eyes of my own children in the eyes of those weeping little ones!
It pains!
So far Michale Scales has already released a significant amount In favor of our good brother Mr Darboe who has since relocated. Editor Mbai has also personally donated $200 to Mr. Darboe.
We are also inviting anyone from any where to help us accomplish this noble mission because we have chosen to add action to words. That is to say, by helping raise funds for good professionals who are not making any money out of this fatal sacrifice. The only driving force behind them is the strong passion they have for this noble profession likewise the dear love in their hearts towards helping serve as watch dogs for the voiceless.
Like the English saying goes: ”He or she who feels it knows it”. No one including myself feels the pain more than the families of the late Deyda Hydara, Ebrima Manneh, Mr Malick Mboob and today Momodou Justice Darboe plus many others.
In view of the above any person who so wishes to help can contact editor Pa Nderry Mbai who will make sure all benefits will reach those affected. Currently and the most urgent case is Mr Momodou Justice Darboe’s a former reporter of the point news paper who has since left his home fearing for his life. Darboe was attacked but narrowly escaped death with wounds on his neck and ever lasting scars in his heart and the hearts of his immediate family at home. Mr Scales has already sent in a significant amount to help brother Darboe and his loved ones.
Thank you is not a pillow case but it can help someone sleep well!
That is why we are saying to all Gambian journalists home and abroad, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
Yours Sincerely,
Essa Bokarr SEY.
