Scales On Justice Darboe's plight
Dear Mr.Editor,
I dont mind admitting that I was moved to tears today when I read the words of Momodou Justice Darboe.I know he is a true son of Islam and a member of My beloved community of Gunjur. On reading those words, I went to my filing cabinet marked  "Gunjur" to find a message that was sent to me by a member of the community and signed on behalf of the community dated
19th June 2003.At the time I was in a side ward of the intensive care unit of our local Hospital suffering with multipal organ failure and feeding air from a ventilator and blood through a dialasis machine. My daughter Victoria was reading the letter to me in a rare moment of consciousness. It reads simply,
" Only Allah the Ruler of all Kingdoms can give or take life.We are saying prayers for your safe return to Gunjur ".....Signed Lamin.
Of course, I recovered and managed to return to Gunjur by June 2004.I have several photos of the visit, including one signing the visitors book of the local school and another speaking to MSR football team, with The Minister for Youth and Sport. We handed a further donation of £150 to the local community.
I cannot remember the exact amount that has been contibuted over the years, but it is certainly many thousands of pounds.God willing, later this year, circumstances that are unfolding will allow a significant tribute to a very special people.
Mr Editor, when you ask what makes me so connected to The Gambia...?
This is just one small example.
In the last few days, a close and trusted Gambian friend asked me why I have not converted to Islam? Well the answer may be that I am already happy to pray in the mosque and have been invited to do so several times. Her Majesty The Queen, on a recent visit to Turkey, sat quietly in a mosque with her head covered and removed her shoes. This week, in Britain the highest Law Advocate in England and Wales, said that Sharia Law was missunderstood and that in certain circumstances, he could see the the benefit of its application in Britain.I see these as positive moves.I find this country is ready willing and able to see the other point of view.Religion should never become the tool of those who would wish to divide us.Faith can move mountains...?

To my friend..Momodou Justice Darboe, where ever you are this evening.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you....
                                                                             Michael.....U.K.
