GDP President Pledges $200 For Justice Darboe’s Media Fund!!
By Haruna Darbo
I am humbled by Freedomnewspaper's current effort to establish a fund for Gambia-exiled journalists.
I understand that Gambia has exiled many a valuable citizen especially those who are journalists and authors. Even though the latest story of Justice Darboe escaping assassination attempt yielded Freedom's vision for the fund, it has been long overdue. If such a fund has not been initiated by the GPU or GPU-USA, It would please me greatly if such a fund could be adopted by the GPU and GPU-USA so that Pa Nderry could concentrate on the Freedomnewspaper. In Pa Nderry's honour, it could be given the name Freedom Fund for Persecuted Gambian Journalists to cover all other exiled and Gambia-resident journalists who have one way or the other been persecuted.
I hereby pledge $200.00 to the current limited assistance fund to Justice Darboe's welfare.
In anticipation of a more comprehensive Fund for shared burdens and glories, I hereby pledge $300.00
Please advise on the feasibility of an expanded fund and when it is created and where.
Most sincerely,
Haruna.

Editors note: Thanks Mr. Darbo for the brilliant suggestion. We at the Freedom Newspaper would be more than willing to handover the proposed media budget for persecuted Gambian journalists to the GPU USA. Our doors are open for discussion. We are also willing to pump in some money for a kick start for the project. Ours is to promote and defend press freedom in The Gambia. We are willing to spend our last dime in safeguarding press freedom. It’s not about money, but extending helping hand to the needy. Our persecuted brothers in Africa, need moral and financial help. Lets keep the ball rolling. Thanks.
