Breaking News:Jammeh threatens Civil Servants!!

JAMMEH THREATENS CIVIL SERVANTS

….AS HE INAUGURATES GRA'S NEW OFFICE

By Amadou Jallow, Banjul.

Banjul:7/24/08-The Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has issued a stern warning to civil servants threatening that his government will continue to show zero tolerance to complacency, corruption, favoritism and nepotism.

Speaking at the inauguration of the new head office of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA)recently ,Mr. Jammeh reaffirmed his unreserved resolve to bring development to the living rooms of the 1.5 million  Gambian  citizens. However he was quick to  emphasize   that Gambians must change their laid-back approach towards  work because the world is not waiting on The Gambia to catch on.

Turning to his operation no compromise policy, the Gambian leader elucidated that the policy is precipitated by the lack of work ethics of most Gambian people. " It is not my wish to hire someone and fire him/her the next day but I'm doing this to ensure people deliver the goods," says Mr. Jammeh. According to President Jammeh, he will not allow any government official to hold the country to ransom , adding that any official found inept must double up or else get his/her  marching order.

While describing the new GRA head office as a magnificent complex, the Gambian leader says: " the problem with us since colonial days is lack of maintenance. Try to make your work place clean. Or else all of you will face the full consequence."

President Jammeh who came to power in 1994 through a military coup ending the 30-year old democratic regime of Sir Dawda Jawara, is rated as Africa's most silly, brutal and despotic head of state. From 1994 to date he has sacked 78 ministers and worse of all his 14-year rule has been characterized by right violations, extra-judicial killings, press censorship and underdevelopment. But notwithstanding the international community seem to show little appetite to what is unfolding in this tiny West African Commonwealth country.
